New family member.

Well, I thought I'd show off a quick pic of Jeffery(will change shortly), the Illigers Macaw. I believe him to be a her(squats and clucks when pet too long on the back), hence the name change plans.

Anyways, here she is.

What a pretty bird. How old is she? How did you end up getting her? Enough of the third degree, good luck and congratulations.

No problem on all the questions. I had a long post typed up and accidently deleted it, so in dispair, wrote a quicky.

I work at a petstore and a man came in saying he was leaving the country and needed to find a home for his "hybrid mini-macaw". I went and met him at his place, you know, just to check her out, . Low and behold, an Illigers Macaw. For the last month a friend has been keeping her at his place for quaranteen(he has no birds), as I have no real room for quaranteen. A couple days ago she came to her new and final home. I'll get some better pics tonight.

If you get a chance, would you weigh him/her? I'm very curious about the size of illiger's. Why did he think the bird was a hybrid? What is his/her personality like?
Good luck!
Rebecca

Congratulations!! That must be so exciting! You could do a DNA test just to see for sure whether she's a boy or girl. I've used avianbiotech before, and it's awesome

No problem, I'll get a weight for you. He thought it was a hybrid, as that is what he was told(bought him from a store that has long since closed). My guess, the petstore had never seen an illigers, and thus assumed it was a hybrid. Her personality is pretty playful and talkative, but she's still cautious due to the new environment. If I leave the room, every few seconds she'll yell out "peek-a-boo", hoping I will return obviously. She also says "good bye", whether coming or going. It's odd, she has a descent vocabulary, but don't appear to know "hello".

I do plan on DNA sexing her.
