He can FLY!!!!

Newt and I have started harness training... that's another story. I was going to take him to Parrots in the Park on Sunday and we were doing some preliminary exercises for harness training in the family room.

My dog Cash walked by the sliding door outside and startled Newt and YEP. HE flew to his cage, even partially clipped. Needless to say, we didn't go to the park until he learns to wear his harness. Whew! Glad he did that while we were home.

I'm so excited. When he gets harness trained, he can go anywhere with me and not have to be in his carrier, and he can fly outside with his harness.

I bought The Aviator Harness and Leash. It has the instructional DVD with it. I've watched it but need to watch it again and work with both of my boys. Newt is first though because he can fly. I think he shocked himself by flying.. LOL . It was so cute! When I ran over and picked him up, I gave him hugs and kisses and told him what a good, smart boy he was. He was so proud of himself!

Unfortunately Elliot has a birth defect with his right wing and according to the vets and the shop where I got him, they say he will never be able to fly, but I'm still going to harness train him as well, for safety sake.

Good!! Yes just take your time. It took Echo 6 weeks to be ready to go outside with it on the first year and 4 weeks to be reintroduced to it this year. Since you are in Florida you don't have to deal with the winter brake in the outdoor fun!

I know what you mean about the, 'Wow, I can fly' look they get Chief has finally molted all but two feathers on each wing and she's getting good! She's turning corners and flying across two rooms and landing on the counter top (until the past few days, she'd always land on the floor). It sure is amazing to watch, and you can tell she's so proud of herself Now if we could only teach Sarge that he actually has wings, we'd be doing good

And just so people don't think I'm crazy letting the big ones fly through my house...we have 14' ceilings in my front rooms, and the kitchen, living room, foyer, breakfast area, and bird room (once was a formal dining room) are all open to each other. It's not as much room as I'd ultimately like to have for them, but it definitely serves its' purpose while teaching them

Oh yea. The look on his face was just that ! Too funny! My formal dining room is now the bird room too! LOL But I don't have 14' ceilings. I'm looking into an outside aviary (big one) where they can fly. No wonder my family says when they die they want to come back reincarnated as one of my animals. He he
