Running Backwards

So Romeo my B&G has started coming off his cage and running around my apartment on the floor. I think this is great as it's really good excercise for him, despite cleaning poop out of the carpet. The one thing I noticed is 90% of the time when he's walking around he does it backwards, and always tends to go down to the end of a small hallway that's enclosed. Are these behaviors normal for Macaws??

Running backwards? Not heard of that one. LOL. You can take care of the poo on the carpet by potty training. Newt will NOT go anywhere but in his cage or play gym.

My conure Stimpy runs around backwards but not Hannah........LMB

My Yellow Collared Macaw hits the floor and goes in reverse. Its normal.

I'm glad to hear that other birds do this as well. Know I can kill myself laughing without feeling guilty that something might be wrong. :)

That's so cool! I haven't heard of that either... but Macaws are such clowns! hera walks around like a chicken - but when she's on the floor, she actually prefers to be rolling around and playing like a cat... I just about die from laughter half the time... shes a riot!

But running backwards...? Now that's cool!

And ditto about the potty training. I lucked out in the sense that Hera had started the potty training when we got her... so it went very well. She's pooped outside of her cage two times - and now she's got it down pat. Say the magic words "Go PooPoo!" and she's good to go!
