Arrow Cameroon Scams

Hello Addicted to Tequila

Since a little bit than over a month ago I started to lure these people from Cameroon by answering all kinds of add (mostly birds and dogs). Once they answer and they are telling me they just move to Cameroon, I check their email address. Everything from yahoo a reported them to fraud_scambuster@yahoo.ca for Canada also I return to where the add was posted and contact the web site and report them to be remove. You want more info on these scams check the web site fraudwatchers.org you will see how bad it is. We are a bunch of people working around the world to alert and inform what is going on. It is too bad that still a lot of people loose money answering these scams. I have to admit some of the story I went across are touching. Even some pass for good Christian working in Cameroon as missionary. 85% OF ALL ADDS THAT I DID ANSWER SO FAR ARE FROM CAMEROON. Now it is us good citizen to stand up to them and not get bullied by them. Dont be scare to report them.

Spix's macaws have, essentially, disappeared from their natural habitat. There are very few in captivity to begin with and they will likely not ever be obtainable by the average citizen, rescue, rehome or purchase.

I highly recommend that you read Spix's Macaw: The Race to Save the World's Rarest Bird by Tony Juniper. It will give you more insight into the state of peril that this species is in.

Talking Spix Macaw

Hello Eliza,
I think I just order that one. I know it will be impossible to have one onless I win big on the lottery. Like I said the Prince of Dubai just bought one for $40,000.00. Still it is not in my life time that a Spix's macaw will be available to us. Nothing wrong to dream about it or even to have a chance to participate to save the species.

Isn't that sad? I don't understand why people put so much more value on a HY than other birds. The same goes with the black palm cockatoos, hawk-heads, etc. They are all parrots no matter the price tag and they all deserve to find the paths they were meant to be on. It drives me crazy to see rescues scrambling to be the one to get the HY. I hope they are at least prepared to buy a billion lbs of mac. nuts for their new rare beauty.

I think people put a high value on Hys for several reasons.

1) Chicks have a very high mortality rate, and are difficult to raise.
2) Parents generally reproduce every 2 years, instead of at least once/year.

The above reasons make them less abundant in the pet trade than most other commonly available macaw species.

3) Hys generally have wonderful personalities. Playful, loving, or both.
4) With their oversized beaks and feet, and those expressive eyes, they have an endearing quality to them that many people find irresistible.
5) Anything is extrinsically worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.
6) They have a beauty all their own, and unlike that of other macaw species.
7) From what I can tell, a lot of people think of them as status symbols.

I know a couple who have several Hys, and I think they got some of them "second hand", but that doesn't seem to be the norm, for sure. I only rarely see older Hys available for adoption/sale. They must be out there, but I obviously don't have the contacts necessary to find them :-).
