New B&G...

Guess the title says it all.... put down a deposit on a ~2 month old blue and gold today. I've wanted one of these great birds for a long time, but it wasn't until we recently relocated and got into a free standing house that I could justify it.

Soo... a few things I'm wondering about that i thought I'd ask a few B&G owners for thoughts and opinions.

First, the introduction to the other two birds - a sengal and a sun conure (the highest in the pecking order and the first bird) The sun took to the sennie a lot better than i had expected, and the two get along great for the most part, minus some occasional squabbling. what's the dynamic like for a 3rd bird, esp. a macaw? Would it be a good idea to introduce the existing birds to the new before he comes home?

Size difference... how do your big birds get along with your smaller birds - not just the "omg that big bird could kill your smaller bird!" stuff that gets spouted off all too often (my senegal could kill my sun if she wanted to ) but i want to hear from those with this type of mix what their birds REALLY do.

third... anyone have flighted macaws? both the conure and senegal are flighted, but how about the big guys?

Thanks for the input!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!

I would keep them in separate rooms for sure, just to be safe. I bet you could trust them out on playstands or something eventually, but since your smaller two are flighted, I would make sure their cages are separate from the macaw's.

All three of my birds are in the same room, and they get along great! Oscar, my grey, is flighted since he's the smaller one and in case he needs to "escape" quickly for whatever reason. He enjoys flying from his to Ollie's cage, to cheyenne's, to his again. He plays with all their toys, eats their food, and the macaw's don't seem to mind at all.

As for flighted macaws, both of mine are clipped, so I can't help you out there at all... If you decide to keep him/her flighted though, I would suggest getting the Aviator harness and make him/her used to it right away! It's a VERY nice design!
