GW Macaw

Just wondering how many people have a GW. Mine is extra bossy when he/she wants to be. Let's hear about everyone elses.

GW are wonderful birds. I was wondering something, are they common is the USA ? I've heard that they were quite uncommon and didn't know if that was true.

I dont think they are that uncommon. I know alot of breeders who have them and people who have them so, I wouldnt think so. But I really dont know. I do alot of research on birds so maybe I have just come across the ones who raise them.

We have Roarke who is 11 years and yep BOSSY! LOL! He thinks everything is his, food, other birds, thier toys etc.

Almost every GW I have met is a goofball, showoff, but demanding as well! THey are a blast!

Newt is 1/2 GW, but my friend who owns the shop has a GW named Carnegie and she is a PISTOL! Bossy, demanding and she wants what she wants, when she wants it, but she is hilarious. She's the only one of this woman's 19 birds at home that will get down from her perch and chase her through the house saying, "Hiiiii"!

She and Newt have this in common. Both of them will "peak" around a doorway and say "HI"! Its hilarious!

I have a male GW. He is regal, playful, BOSSY, destructive, smart and beautiful. He is also quite intelligent and very mechanically-inclined. He has a large vocabulary, including what I call his "jungle monkey" sounds.

GWs are not my favorite macaw species (Hys and Scarlets hold that place in my heart), but I love Arthur. He's naughty and tries to get away with stuff one second, and loving and snuggly the next.

My GW, Chief, is something else She definitely owns the place! She's so smart, sneaky, mischievious, and the adjectives could go on for days. She's so quick to learn new things, and you can almost see the 'proud smile' on her face because she knows it. Everything is hers, including your constant undivided attention!

Her latest thing is screaming 'peek-a-boo' when you walk past her and don't pay attention, or when she's ready for you to get up at 7am on Saturday. She's the biggest, sweetest, cuddliest goofball in the world. (Can you tell I'm biased?)

If I ever get a big bird it will be a Greenwing. I love everything I've read about them. Of course when I meet one in person (or is that in parrot?) I may think differently but I think they are stunning.

If I were to ever get one it would mean that I would have to adjust my two bird limit. I understand this is not uncommon.
