babyh huey got his foot stuck....

he was panicing.......i was panicing.....you know his left foot is disabled....well he can use it. he got his foot stuck in his tail feathers and couldnt get it out........im noticing he is really having problems with it now..... as he becomes a little bit older. but the doc said surgery wouldnt be best because it could risk nerve damage. leading to having to put him asleep. i dont want that. i just need to get him a bigger cage and keep him out a little more i think.

So sorry his foot can't be fixed. I think the pics are cute. He looks like a sweetie. Hope you find a bigger cage so he can play with toys. I will thank you for sharing the story and pics.

I would imagine as he gets older he will learn better how to compensate for that leg and know how to keep it from getting tangled or caught.

It's just a hunch.

He sure is a cute little guy.

I would supply Huey with different sized/textured perches and lots of "foot" toys to work his foot and to help him be able to use it better. I have a special needs bird and she is doing alot better now with both of her messed up feet as opposed to how she was when I first brought her home from her first owner. Its amazing the things she can do now that she couldnt do when I first got her. We work her feet alot by massaging them (she rolls over in my husbands shirt like a hammock and plays while he rubs and stretches her feet) and providing lots of toys and foods which requires her to use her feet.

I agree with Kelly. Keep working with him and his feet. I've seen some birds with only one leg and they seem to adapt better than we do with a physical disability.

My Elliot has a wing disability and I think I worry about it more than he does. He doesn't even "know" he's special abled.
