how bad is this? sunny went to the vet, he is at 2lb = 908.889 didnt gain or loose wt

today sunny went to the vet so he could poop for his gram stain test(3rd one!) i had them weigh him in case he needs more meds cuz i thought maybe he had put some weight on, wrong. he weighed 2lbs before the first dose of meds and is still at 2lbs after the meds. so is this good or bad? im glad he didnt loose any weight, but he is about 191 grams underweight according to one of the weight charts i saw.

how bad is it with him being that little bit underweight? what was that stuff called to help gain weight? instant oz's? where do you find it? the vet did say he is small for a gw macaw. like he could have been the runt, or because of a small cage didnt grow like he should have???

whatcha guys think? thanks!

First, how old is he? Did the vet seem concerned with his weight? Since he said he is small for a GW, then I wouldn't worry. My vet said he would rather have them a little lean than overweight. And that weights on macaws can vary and he has seen anywhere from 900g's to 1500. He said obesity in birds is more dangerous than running a little lean.

Newt is a little over 2 lbs and he's lean, but very healthy. And he is a BIG BOY for a Harlequin (more the size of the GW than the B&G). He's just super active, but eats like a horse.

sunny

sunny will be 5 in oct. the vet wasnt concerned at all about his weight, its just me lol. maybe because skye bg was so thin and was sooooooo sick i just worry.

sunny was raised with a harlquin in a small cage, so i dont know if that had anything to do with it, the vet said he has a big head for his smaller body like his growth got stunted. i guess \after loosing savannah i worry about everything now. but then you saw a weight chart that said 900 grams is ok for a gw, so he is right in there.

i will know in the next few days if his infection is gone, i hope so 2 dosings of different meds is enough for this poor boy!!
