What does it mean when macaw is tested + for E-Coli
My breeder told me yesterday that he took my baby to the vet for there check-up so I can get him and the did a fecal flow (Ithink that is what he called it) and he tested positive for E-Coli. AGH That sounds terrible!!! What is your opinion on this? Oh and he is on antibiotics for 7 days is that all that needs to be done?

Here is what I found out for you on Google Once a positive culture for E. coli has been obtained, I use some loose guidelines on interpretation. First, if the bird is a juvenile of any species, I consider it significant but not always necessary to treat. If the bird is a cockatoo, the E. coli does not comprise more than about 30 percent of the gut flora, and the bird is performing normally on its feeding or weaning schedule, I usually do not treat. However, if the bird is an Amazon, I might treat depending on the health status of the bird. I would absolutely treat the E. coli if the bird is in any distress, such as that associated with weight loss or sick bird syndrome, regardless of species. Thanks JJones1719
