Maybe a new companion for my Illie Naomie ???

As many of you remember I lost one of my Illies to a mysterious disease 2.5 months ago. After I got the ok from vet that I can bring in another bird I started looking into adoption. Last week I had a lady over from a local sanctuary checking out my home. Today I went to the sanctuary to check out the adoptabla birds and fell in love with a patagonian conure. He/she is between 12-16 years old and a total sweetheart. I will go back next weekend to spend some more time with "Pretty Boy" (stupid name , I will change that for sure). Now my question: Can anybody give me some information about that bird species since they are not very common.

Google "patagonian conure" and you'll get lots of info. They're the largest of the conures. Like all conures, they can be (and usually are) extremely noisy. Every one that I've ever met has been a sweetheart. That's about the end of my personal experience with them. Sorry 'bout that. I hope it helps some, though.

Its good to see you back, was wondering where you were off too. Pattys are very popular around here. Me and my husband refer to them as Army Pidgeons cause well... thats what they look like. They are very sweet natured, can become excellent talkers and from the ones I have encountered as babies and from speaking to people who own them, I have been told that they are not the typical screaming conure type. Like conures though they are very curious and like to chew alot. I hope everything turns out well with the adoption. Also real good to have you back and to know that Naomie is doing well.

Well, you know what they say... bad things happen in threes. That means you are clear and free of unfortunate events for awhile! Sorry about the passing of your grandfather. Keep us posted and I will keep my fingers crossed "X".

Hi I use to raise Patties....they are my favorite baby to raise! They can be excessively noisy but if thats not an issue then they are such playful sweeties! Here is a link in my site with more info on them (you will have to copy and paste the link) also look up burrowing parrot you will get more information.

One thing you need to consider, if one of the main reasons for getting a second bird is to provide your sweetie a companion, is that there's no way to guarantee that they'll like each other. Would you be ready for a long-term commitment to both birds if they didn't enjoy each other's company and/or it created jealousies?

I brought home a second bird, in large part because I thought Stewie would enjoy having another bird in the flock, but it turns out that he does NOT like her. So I have to let them out at separate times, and do everything for them separately. I feel guilty that I'm probably not giving either of them the amount of attention and out-of-cage time they should have.

Eventually I think they'll learn to tolerate each other, but this current situation was not at all what I had in mind when I got a second bird.

Patagonian Conures

Hello!

Please go to the below site to view the MSN group for patagonian conures:

Patagonian Feathers to Treasure

I myself have 3 patagonian conures. They are wonderful companions. Be aware that they are the biggest of the conures and tend to be very loud. They are very playful and sometimes seem more like puppies than birds.

Enjoy! Cheers, Cindi.

I am ready for it but the good thing is, that the Lilly Sanctuary will take it slow on me and the adoptable bird. I will spend time with birdie at the sanctuary, if this goes well then I cam bring him home for a few hours to see if Naomie and Pretty Boy go along. If this goes well I can bring him home for an overnighter and so on. It will make sure that my birdies get along Its a really good process
