Question How much time should be spent??

Hello everyone. I was just wondering, how much time at a minimum, should be spent with a macaw parrot?
and how long is considered too long for parrots to be alone in their cage? because I have school for 6 hours every day from 8:00 am to 2:55 pm.

I leave my macaws' cage doors open all day, every day. THey generally stay on their cages the entire time, with only a few escapes from Oliver, who likes to wander about the hallway.
If yours has to be kept in his cage for the entire time you're at school, make sure you fill up the cage with plenty of toys to keep him occupied while you're gone. Right when you get home, open up the cage to let him stretch/flap his wings, etc. From here, just give him as much attention as you can. :)

I must keep my birds locked up for almost ten hours each day for there saftey but as soon as we are home and all weekend they are loose while supervised. The Macaw can be loose 24/7 as long as we are home. Plenty of toys and the tv or radio while your gone. You just need to make it a point to let them out as soon as you get home. My Macaw sleeps on a stand in our room so he doesnt have to be locked up all night as well but the other fids would get into trouble if I let them loose all night as well.

Ha ha my Macaw is the "safe" one. He could be out all day when I am not home (I don't do this, but if...) and he would stay on his cage or inside. It is my U2 who can't be trusted. She likes to take walk abouts!!! and chew my moulding around the doors. and my floor boards.

Mine are also locked up about 10 hours a day.

But if you saw their earlier post they also have tae kwon do every evening for about 2 hours. I asked in the other thread if they had a parrot yet. If the answer is no, then I highly suggest that they don't get a parrot because they deffinetly don't have enough time to spend with the bird!

as stated in the other thread, i don't necessarily agree with this statement - it can be done, but it requires some re-arrangement of the life style.
heck - i wrote a phd thesis, on which i worked 16hrs a day, and i still found at least 2-4hrs daily to spend with the birds. not everybody is lucky enough to be home for the majority of the time. it's all about organization, time management, and willingness to provide for the birds during the times when they cannot be out of the cage

But do you guys think I will have enough time to let my bird out of the cage supervised??

because I usually go to sleep at around 12:00, so I will have around 4 hours with my parrot when I get home from tae kwon do, and I willl have around 2 hours to spend with my parrot when I get home froms school.

well, you can't keep him up till midnight - parrots need a lot of sleep....

could you reduce the amount of tae kwon do?

well, maybe I can stop going to the 5:20 class of tae kwon do and go to the 6:05 class and leave at 7:55. would that make much of a difference?
