September 13th is the big day

Hello Group, JJones1719 here, I just wanted to let everyone know that my baby Green winged Neleno will be coming home with me on September 13th. I can hardly wait. I will be posting pictures of him. I am on vacation from September 13th thru September 19th, so I can start the bonding process. I also work from home everyother day. I currently have a 2 year old SI male eclectus who will be statying in a seperate part of my home for atleast 45 days. I just had a few questions on what I need to prepare for him to come home and hope that I have not missed anything. I have

huge King Cage,
Cage cover
Vet appointment September 15th
Carrier
Playstand
Additional perches
Macaw safe wood toys
Pellets provided by the Breeder as well as a nut mix.
water sprayer for baths

Once Neleno is home, I wil then buy plenty of fruit and Veg. So, please advise if I have missed anything. Keep your fingers crossed for me that everything works out fine. Thank you JJones1719

Oh can't wait to see pictures of Neleno. The only thing I could think of was if you plan on taking him outside I would get a harness/leash that way he can get used to it early on. Other than that I can't think of anything else. Good luck

A good stack of newspaper.
Some sort of floor covering around the cage - the wings wont keep it all in and they are a pain to clean so you might take them off, lol, after you have banged your knees on them and tried to clean them a few times. I use plastic sticky carpet protector.
A Water bottle sized for a Macaw if you plan on water bottle training.
Bond but do him a favor and give him that time off every other day "while you would normally be at work - start him off on the right foot to know what to expect.

I just thought of something else..it doesn't hurt to get an electric gram scale. Their $20 at Target. It's reassuring to know their not loosing weight! It's not necessary but mine gives me piece of mind..

Hello everyone, Well this Saturday is the big day when i bring home my 20 week old Green Wing Macaw. His name is Neleno and has been DNA sexed. I currently own a SI Male Eclectus. I know I have to keep them apart for at least 45 days or so. I was wondering at what distance is considered to be safe. I have two seperate rooms but they don't close up to eachother and are approx 20-30 feet apart with there own vent systems. I have an air cleaner that I plan on using next to Neleno's cage. Just wanted advise on bringing home my new Baby. Please advise. Thanks JJones1719

Well from my experience (alot of people will disagree, alot won't) if your house is heated/cooled by one furnace/AC then your birds will share the same air. Keeping them in seperate rooms won't do anything except keep them from eachother. You will still have to wash inbetween touching the birds.
I am just passing on what I have been told by a breeder friend of mine. While quarranteen is a very good thing to do, it is very hard to do properly. Unless you are getting the bird from a rescue, someone you don't know or how they treated the birds, another country or far away then I don't think a full out quarantee is necessary.
Quaranteen aside, keeping them in seperate rooms is good in another way becasue your fids will beable to get used to the idea of eachother before they are in a face to face situation.

Hello everyone, Sprecker, thanks for the advise. Yes, my home is a single furnace and I guess you are right the share the same air thing. I am getting my baby GW from the same breeder I purchased my SI Male eclectus from. I have been to her home many times over the last few years and have never heard or seen any of her birds sick. I will buy a scale for Neleno, Target is right up the street from me.
I have read that the first 24 hours you bring home a pet bird, you should leave it alone with only their toys, food and water. After the 24 hours is up, start the bonding, step up training. Has anyone else heard this. Thanks JJones1719
