Welcome Dani and the flock! I know you will like it here. It sounds as if you have some really nice birds. We too are a multi bird family(see signature). Recently we adopted 2 birds from a rescue in GA also, I was just curious if it might be the same one. With out going into any detail, was it run by a mother and daughter Nancy and Andrea? Glad to have you join the Birdboard family.

Welcome to the board. It was nice to read the stories of how your birds came to live with you. It is also remarkable how sensitive and kind parrots can be, you are fortunate to have Sweetie in your life as your cousin was to have had her as his companion during his illness. I admire people like you who take in birds that are a little older and need another chance, good for you!

Franciscus,
Its funny you should say that... :icon_smil It seems that most of my life my pets wether they be dogs, cats or birds have all come to me from previous owners.. WITH THE ACCEPTION OF THE REPTILES I once kept (I took them home newly hatched) All the animals I have owned have been good loyal loving animals, all accept one bermise python "he was the most agressive and nasty Ive ever encountered" I feel bad but I took him back to the pet shoppe I got him from and swiched him out for 2 ball python hatchlings... I could not have a snake that would become bigger than me be agressive as a hatchling! what would it be at 12 to 14 feet?? as a sub-adult??? no way not me.....Im a lil thing no match for a mean snake that big HERBIE is what I named him.. I often wonder if he found a good home . I worked at that very pet shoppe for quite some time, My job was to take care of the snakes, birds, free birds (the owners birds that were on display perches in back of the bird section) I always called them free birds because they were not caged.. there was a (green wing macaw, Blue and Gold macaw, a catilina macaw and a amazon named Jigs) I also took care of the AFRICIAN GREY breeders in the upstais back of the store there were a dozen pairs at least. My love for large parrots really began there! :eusa_danc The macaws especially! I was told to WATCH OUT for them when I started they had a habit of nipping the employee's I guess as a new hire I had the job no other employee wanted.. the Macaws and I had a great relationship in fact they would go nuts when I walked into work and eventually took turns stanging on my shoulder during the day The amazon JIGS was a diffrent story! that bird liked NO ONE in fact I think he just tolerated his owner.. He was just plain old MEAN AND NASTY. I was then I decided I wnted at some point to own a macaw.. But I knew I would never be able to afford one years went by from that point to when SWEETIE came to live with me. She was my first bird and my DREAM BIRD at that! her persona as I have said was always great... (even though I was told that when she was with my cousin she hated women) I find that hard to belive since our bond came instantly though I had never met her previous to the night I picked her up to take her home.. I think I was the only woman that was not intimidated by her... AS WE ALL KNOW IF A MAC KNOWS YOU ARE AFFRAID THEY WILL PLAY WITH YOUR HEAD!!!!! I saw only a georgous big bird that I was proud to be giving a home, even if it would have been dificult to bond with her I DO NOT GIVE UP EASY.. W brought SWEETIE home late at night, I put her in her new cage and went to sleep on the chair next to her (I didnt want her to feel alone in a new strange place).. the next morning I got up made my tea and went to her cage I opened the door stuck my arm in and said "well SWEETIE I am either gonna be your momma or your breakfeast" SWEETIE steped up and went rite to my shoulder, we sat for the first time and shared my green tea and honey and she gave me kisses... (I couldnt belive it was that easy) the rest is history from there... AHAB was my problem child... it was to be expected, the poor thing had been abused!!! and re-homed 3 times before me he had little to no trust at all in humans.. well after SWEETIE I thought he would be similar just a lil ruff around the edges... OH BOY WAS I WRONG he was her polar opposite in demeanor. he was fine untill I got him home then he gave me 3 deep bites one in the face and two on the arm.. I could not handle him for 2 months without a stick and glove and still I got bit 4 more times and recieved a total of stictches in that period.. HE WAS SO SCARED It made me sad to think he was like this because of abuse. he has been with us a year now, and has done a complete turn around in persona.. I am so happy he decided to trust us and I can not belive it only took 1 year... I find rescues and adoptions very rewarding and belive I will stick to this method of obtaining my birds from here on out... JUST CALL ME BIRDIE MOMMA! Dani and the fids
