Talking

Over the last week mine's lost four wing feathers and a tail feather and has all kinds of new feathers growing where he didn't have feathers before. I'm so excited whenever i find new feathers coming in. They look so good compared to his old ones. No stress bars and they're nice and bright. Zach's plucked his front and back and shredded some of his wing feathers and also plucked the top of his wings for at least the last three years. I took him in in October and since then he's pretty much stopped plucking but still occasionally shreds some of his feathers. Im still hoping his breast and back will eventually feather out but that could take years, or it might never happen at all depending on the follicles.

Does it ever end?

Does it ever end? Rio, B&G, has been dropping feathers and growing new ones for months. Wing and tail feathers seem to have cycled through but he constantly has new feathers on his head and back. How many months will this go on? Or will they always have some amount of new feathers cycling in? The new wing feathers looked so beautiful it was a shame to have them cut, but for safety's sake we had to do it.

How Many of your Macaws are Molting?

I have two here that are growing in new tail feathers. They have been through a molt twice already this year but then the pair is on the homonal issue. They think "mom" can solve the problem. No fun getting a hinney backed into my face or the arguments. For a bonded pair they sure are bonded to "mom".

Still Molting!!!

Ok I was just wondering how long Macaws go through their molt.. Stitch is still going through it. He still hasn't gotten new feather in the flight feather area,, Well a few but you can still see all the ones the breeder cut. He has new flight feathers and tail feathers. Yes I give him a bath every other nite. I was just wondering how long it took them to have all their feathers replaced..

Our macaws are still molting some, but boy did Galahad start dropping feathers I wondered as he hadn't when everyone else was.

I have 2 baskets of feathers just since Feb and that isn't counting the ones that were demolished. Floor looks like a feather duster exploded...LOL!!!!

We've had a snow storm here for the past week or so. Tango started back up again big time.

Wow I can't beleive how many feathers Stitch's breeder cut off his wings. I think perhaps s/he should be made to walk with shoes tied together.

I agree. It is really hard on him because of them like that. He has gotten a lot better with is balance though. The more the new feathers come in the braver he gets.. I just thought about not having them cut any more but we wouldn't ever get to take him outside. I think I will at least let them all grow in and let him keep them for a little while then have them cut. That is the flight feathers. Not his What I call his landing gear feathers...
