Yes. Scarlets can be nippy. I get "pinched' every day by mine...usually when he's excited or wants to play. I think it's just their way.. It's a "Scarlet thing". You can dissaude this by giving a wobble correction witha firm NO or Aaah or distraction method by giving them something else to nibble on. They are very sensitive.. Mine gets his feelings hurt very easily so I do have to discipline him differently than my Harlequin.

And since he's close to 2, you are going to go through the terrible twos.. they will test you to the limits of your patience sometimes. Give him/her lots of interesting toys and activities to keep that brain stimulated, and handling as much as you can. They need their "space" as well. You will learn in time your Scarlet's "signals".

Oh and what a beautiful baby you have there!

I so also own a Scarlet (maybe should I rather say that I'm also owned by a Scarlet)

He's now a little more than 1 yo and lives with our 2 yo Severe. Elliot (the Scarlet) is by far friendlier than Arnold (Severe). He's really kind and almost never bites. But at some points it can be quite "dangerous", especially when he's excited. I agree with you KimM, he only wanna play. He almost never bites when he's quiet (Scarlet are nevertheless often known as chewers but Elliot isn't).

On the other hand, our Severe, always wanna use his beak and bite quite often. He's really stubborn ! He understands me perfectly when I asked him not to bites anymore BUT just keeps on It's his personality and that's it...

Concerning Elliot, when he tends to bite, I just hold his beak between my fingers and tell him a "no" with a steady voice.

What about your life with your Scarlets ?

Savannah is my scarlet. She will be a year old in a few weeks and is still a sweetie girl. She loves to lean into me and make a little noise as her head gets scratched. She also loves to have her wing pits scratched and she usually falls over in a heap when it is done.

She will nip at my 16 year old but they are playing. He grabs her beak and she acts like she is going to nip but she doesn't actually nip.

I saw an adult scarlet today and I was surprised at how different he looked from Savannah. I also correctly guessed he was male.
