Juno is HOME

Just want to let everyone know that today was the BIG day. Juno arrived home tonight around 7:30 p.m. after her big 5 1/2 hour journey from Louisiana to Virginia. I have to tell you the pictures do nothing for the beauty of this animal. She is very very pretty, stocky and one heck of a flier. She came out of the carrier and took off. She settled on top of the book case where we left her be and luckily she is stick trained so after about a half an hour or so and three wild flights through the living room, we finally got her settled into her new digs. I gave her some formula and she ate quite well... little baby eyes rolling into the back of her head, she is so sleepy. Very interested in all of the toys in her cage. Not bothered at all by the other 5 parrots squawking back at her or the cat lurking about probably thinking... "Good Grief another one." Captain is very excited especially when she lets out one of those big squawks.... shes a vocal one. My other Big Mac... shes very quiet, you barely know she is here. Captain chooses to use her words more. Captain keeps saying "who is it?" "Come in." I can't wait til the quarantine period is over and they meet. She is still back there grumbling and letting me know she hasn't settled down yet. Lights went off two hours ago except for the night light. I promise to post pics tomorrow, hopefully by then she will have settled down... just a little. Good night... I am tired.

The squawking has finally stopped... I hear the sweet sound of a birdie with a full crop, she is settling down and doing some beak grinding. Its going to be an exciting, wonderful weekend.

It has, she finally quieted down last night and slept. I kept checking on her. She is hard not to look at. I did eventually have to clip her wings. I cried. I did not want to have to but it needed to be done for her safety. Once they molt back our relationship will be different as well as her familiarity with the house... then she can keep them. I have to work with her stepping up as she is stick trained. Without her being able to fly away from me, that should not be a problem. I am confident everything will be ok. This morning, I awoke (real early for me on a Saturday...LOL) to find her eating her pellets and just looking around. She likes her toys. She knows her name....she coos and says "step up" and "momma." I can't wait to hold her, but not today. Will let her settle and get used to the sounds of the house. I am sure I will be spending a lot of time talking to her and such today. Getting ready to make breakfast. Will see how she does. Breeder says she is a great eater and really likes her veggies. She was scared of the banana I offered her up this morning. She just lunged at it. Wish me luck, will keep everyone posted. Pictures to come in a later post sometime today. I promise.

"Later in the day" will be the wee hours of the night for me! :( I have to wait until tomorrow. I am so excited for you Kelly I can't wait for the pictures. Can you make sure to get a detailed close up, if at all possible without scaring her, of her face. There is so much to a macaws face, they are fascinating. I would be seething with jealousy if I wasn't so happy for you and Juno!
