Scarlet Macaws Color - Stumped

I don't know if this is a mutation thing, a hybrid thing, or perhaps an age thing.... but these *RED* scarlet macaws have been popping up...

This first macaw appears to have some yellow... (looking at right wing, yellow appears to show through the feathers)

But the rest have none (will need to do some scrolling on first two pages)

Anyone know about these birds?

Seen it before, among others. There is no one true classification, if we assume that there are subspecies of scarlet macaws, and not just a difference of color within one species.

Interesting - I've seen a fair number of Scarlets, but never one without yellow on the wing.

The first pic, where there is yellow on the wing, looks like the yellow could be a sunset or something? It almost looks like light shinning through, but I could be wrong!

Heard it could be an age thing, where-in the birds just "loose" coloration, but it's something I doubt. It could also be a health related issue, but the birds *do* look healthy (which doesn't say much...). And of course the other options....

I doubt it.... but still, the macaw looks rather *red.*

Rather than a narrowing of the band. I'm leaning towards mutation.

If you're talking about just the super REDness of the pics, it could honestly be attributed to upping the contrast on the photo itself....but as far as the missing other colors go, I'm going for mutation too.

On the other hand, this is the best picture ever and I think I shall be making it into an icon.

Red as in lack of yellow..... thus a much more red scarlet. They don't really have the colorations of a greenwing, but that doesn't necessarily say much when some hybrids can look almost exactly like pures.

Besides the blue mutation scarlet macaw, I have not heard of any other scarlet macaw mutations.

I think I like this coloration. I like the combo of red and blue but then I think female ekkies are the most gorgeous birds......
