Exclamation does anyone own two macaws I need your advise!

does anyone own two macaws I need advise!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello I have a 14 year old blue and gold macaw who I adopted about 4 years ago and a harliquin macaw that I rescued just under a year ago. When the harliquin fist came to my house sam the blue and gold still socialized well with me this lasted for about 8 months and now sam lost his mind and wants to kill me. I thought at first it was his molt but has been continuing for 2 months now. Do you think that he will ever go back to liking me again does anyone who owns two macaws have any tips???

Morgan the harliquin likes attention from both me and sam. The harliquin is dominant over the blue and gold. The blue and gold enjoys the company of the harliquin and protects her even though the harliquin is dominant. I know that the blue and gold is a male but I am not sure of the sex on the harliquin.
At first I tried doing individualized attention, this lead to two different attacks on me from the blue and gold during his alone time. He used to turn his head for kisses, lay on his back and have his belly scratch ect. But now lungs when ever I am near him. I tried not pulling away from the lunging and he took a chunkout of my wrist.

When I have both birds out together sam usually wonders back to his cage alone after a short time.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?
Do you think this behavior may lead to both birds eventually turning on me?
HELP!!!!

Have you tried having them in separate parts of the house where they have no contact?

I have a B&G and a Green Wing. When they are together, they just love each other...but will kill me!

It is sad because I thought they could hang out and all would be cool. But if they are together they attack me. So, they are not allowed to be with each other anymore. I don't need any additional scars.

do you keep them in the same room in seperate cages? Or in different parts of the house. My birds currently share the same room.

Have you had a vet check to make sure something isn't going on health wise to justify his change towards you?

Are you all in the same room when he attacks you? If so you might try taking the each of them to a different room when you want your alone time with each.

I would also advice on getting the Harlequin dna'd. If you are letting them hang out together are you prepared if they decide to start a family?

My vet said that since the harliquin is a hybrid it will not be able to have fertil eggs, and it would not be necessary to be sexed. Have you heard of harliquins being able to reproduce

Did you ask him how breeders can sell 2nd and 3rd generation hybrids?

It may be that I'm the ignorant one here, but I find that hilarious! Since when could a hybrid not reproduce?!?!? No disrespect to hydrids (I love them!) but they are a "mixed breed" and when you have a mixed breed dog, for example, they multiply just the same as a purebreed does...

Your vet needs to go back to school... he obviously missed a few classes!

thank you I will get a dna test. I live in a very small town and am not suprised that I was mis-informed. Do you have any ideas about how to cure the aggression. That is my main concern. The harliquin is just 1.5 years old. How young do they start breeding?
