Illigers with other birds

Do Illigers normally get along with other birds? I know my Caiques do not. We have a Red Fronted Macaw and was wondering if there is a chance they may get along? I know there is a size difference and would have to keep a close eye on them.

You shouldn't chance it!! My RFM needs a playmate. I'll be happy to take yours off your hands for you!!

Seriously though - it depends on each birds temperment. My RFM wants to be friends with EVERYBODY but the bigger birds are mean to him Which brings me back to my original suggestion of taking your RFM in!!!

Have you seriously considered getting another rfm? I'm told they do wonderfully with another rfm buddy while still staying sweet to the rest of the family since they are colony birds.

my Illy is parent raised so that may be the reason she has such good birdie manners. She's the only bird who will allow other birds to perch on her cage with her. She does not get close enough to preen, but she has never shown aggression to any of my other birds. I'm really happy she's so well behaved because she's not tame enough to step up, She's out of her cage all day just like the other birds but she's the only one who never gets into trouble.

I totally want another one! Our Rainbow is a lover boy & I feel terrible that the other birds pick on him. He gets a little more attention then the others but that's because the others want less loving! I keep my eyes open in Omaha but I may have to find a breeder. I try to adopt rather then get babies but we are really considering changing that just to get another RFM.

Our Redfront Zetta lived with our Hy Pebbles for many years. She live with our Blue and Gold Victory now.

Our Illiger lives with a mitred conure. We like all of our birds to have buddies but you have to go slow introducing them.

I have two RFMs that get along famously. They are now role modeling for my youngest baby for sale, a 4 month old RFM. Nothing beats being taught manners by your elders! LOL
