Weening help

I have a 6 month old Severe Macaw, recently weened, but still at the point that he needs daily cooked veggies/fruits in the early morning...the only problem is he hasn't been eating them. I've tried several different combinations, and he is eating regularly otherwise (seeds, pellets, and nuts) he just won't touch his fresh food. What should I do?

I too had the same issue with my Green Wing Macaw, Neleno, He was eating well for my Breeder. I brought him home with me, he ate pretty good for the first day or so then stopped. I tried warm baby food on a spoon, nothing seemed to help. I mashed his fruit and Veg together, still nothing. So I took him to my Vet who ran x-rays but nothing showed up. My vet tube fed my Neleno for 1 week and after paying $800.00, I called my Breeder back asking if I can bring him back as he was not eating on his own, My Breeder advised that Macaws can regress back to being babies and need to be tube fed. I ended up traveling from Maryland to Virginia to my Breeder. After two weeks past, Neleno was eating on his own again. I made the trip again, brought him home and all was fine. macaws sometime regress due to new surroundings. My Vet advised that some macaws can take anywhere from 9 months to a year before they are truely weaned. Please keep this in mind. You may want to contact your breeder to see if you too can bring them back. I hope this helps. Thanks Joe
