Hybrid Scarliquin aka: Harlet macaws

Kelly, this post is for you, and I need to make it quick. You had previously asked me if hybrid Harlet, Harlequin X Scarlet, which some us call Scarlequin (or Scarliquin) can be yellow dominant and look like an orange or yellow Camelot. I couldn't answer at the time cause I needed to see some current pix. Anyhow, yes they can. I am looking at pix of 2 babies at the moment, that a breeder friend of mine is raising in Florida, and they look very much like Camelots, and are quite beautiful, actually. Gotta go. I'll ask if I can share a couple of her pix so you can see sometime later, and also put her contact info up. Sorry I was late responding. I am just not online that much.

Cynthia

It is now my belief that some people just breed hybrids solely to come up with silly names.

That is all. ^^

Thank You! Yes, I was wondering, the bird I am holding in this picture is a Harlet aka Scarlequin, the facial webbing is more noticeable than with the Camelots. I have seen Harlets with different coloring as well.
Thanks for the answer and I would love to see some pictures. The one I am holding in the picture is a very sweet bird.

The Harlet you are holding is a very BEAUTIFUL bird! I emailed my friend, who I know is at work now, so I probably won't hear back from her til tommorrow sometime. I am guessing she will let me share, but need to wait for permission.

As for hybrid names, it is very common to make up one by combining parts of the names of the hybrids and/or species they are crossed with, strictly for identification. Hybrids are not a species, so any names given to them are scientifically irrelevant.

I just couldn't take a bird seriously that was named a Harlet. I'd be wanting to put a red light on their cage/aviary. Oh wait that's a harlot. Oops, me bad.

Who the heck comes up with these names. Is it like lets have a few drinks and see what we can come up that will mke people shake their heads. The people that do the paint colour names just need to be shot.

I haven't forgotten about this thread at all, and I do have permission to post pix. I just got some new ones, taken by my breeder friend of her 2 babies yesterday. Kelly, there is no doubt in my mind that you are holding a Scarliquin in the pic aka: Harlet. Her babies look like Camelots. I have to finish up a few things (have been on overload) and then will pick out my favorite pix, type her email addie across them (just in case they are used without permission, which mine always seem to be) and then I'll put them up. She told me the babies from last year were both red doms. This years babies are both orange with yellow, like yellow dom Cammies, etc. Gotta run now. But feel good that I will have finally gotten your question answered.

Kelly, this forum will not let me post pix, even though they are image links, so if you want them you will have to email me. I refuse to waste any more time here trying.

OK, I think I figured out the problem, because I could not pull them up in IE, Firefox or Netscape either, even though I was able to download them to another file and view them fine. I did get a software error when I rebooted. Not sure what it meant, but I decided to re-save them as a new file in photoshop and then re-upload them, and now I can view them in all the browsers. I don't uderstand all this stuff, but sometimes will keep at it until I figure it out. So will try again. Here goes -

They belong to my friend, Keri, in Florida, who is their breeder. She is keeping the little one, but the older, larger one may be avilable if anyone is interested. Her email addie is on the pix.

Night, night,
Cynthia
