He could be moulting but if you see any bald spots hes probably plucking. Usually if hes a plucker they start at the chest area and work down to the legs. My macaw plucked all his chest feathers out and since we relocated his cage she has stopped and is now growing new feathers all over. I wasnt sure it was a molt until i read some threads about plucking thats when i realized she was bald down to bare skin that she was indeed plucking. Keep your eyes open and if you see bare skin then hes definatly plucking.

Has anything changed in his environment recently that might cause stress for him? Has your schedule changed or have you moved his cage? Anything you can think of?

Also...I dont know where your located, but with the weather getting colder and people turning on home heaters, etc... the air gets drier. He may need more frequent showering.

How old is he?

Try putting him on a playstand or somewhere he is comfortable and using a water bottle to just mist him. If he starts liking that you can try the shower, but play in the shower without water first so he gets used to it.

Unless you see bare spots, I wouldn't assume he's plucking. It could be a normal molt, and yes, both the outer feathers and down feathers do fall out.

If he does happen to be plucking, and you're anxious about it, he will pick that up. Stay calm and let him continue settling in to the new home.
