I am interested in Hahn Macaws

I have liked them from afar till I met one today. My husband has always wanted a Macaw and I thought this would be a good compromise. I am a little scared of the larger birds. I would like to know if a Hahn could be friends with a PFC. I do not want Abbey to lose her spot in the house. I understand they might not get along. But could they play together supervised? How much different is the diet compared to a conure? From what I have read they have the same temperament as a conure, is that true? What advice could you give me?

I don't know about the same temperament as a conure, but I do know that mine screams alot! If there should be anything that is not right or different - she starts ans does not shut up.

As for getting along with your conure - I wouldn't chance it.
I don't trust my hahns around my other birds - she will bite the snot out of me if they are around or if she ever got close to the others - I would fear for their life. Seriously... I honestly think she would kill my other birds if she could get around them.

They can be cute but they really are drama queens about everything.

Personally, I would prefer a Yellow Collar mac or maybe an Illigers or Red Belly.
They are still small but have a nicer personality.

Yeah, my girl is a drama queen too. But she is good with my cockatoo and birds her size. She is only aggressive with smaller birds. I would get a super young one (just off hand feeds) and introduce them as young as you can. That way there is a better chance of them getting along.

Get a bird raised up with Conures and you probably won't have a problem at all.

Thank you I will be doing alot of research before we had another bird. I just fell in love with them. So I will be looking at different breeders or if there is a rehome that has been around conures. Thanks for the advice

Mine is a little snot, loves my Blue Crown but will try and take my finger off if I get too close to the Blue Crown while its their playtime together. He is fine when it is just him, he will sit on my shoulder for hours and preen my hair and lunge at my head when I stop talking to him. Dewey is not much of a screamer unless my Yellow Collar starts up, then Dewey has to imitate Erma. Dewey very much chooses to use his words (he has many) more than screaming. He is not much for scritches... its pretty much on his terms. He is very social when it comes to the other birds in our house, Dew doesn't realize how small he is. He just wants to hang out with everybody. With that I think a conure of the Aratinga variety would make a more suitable companion for a Hahns. You see lots of people with Hahns and Suns/Jendays/Gold Capped and yes Blue Crowns who are buds. They can bite hard when they want to and I think could and probably would get the best of your sweet little Peach Front.

Yep, Beaker definitely thinks he's The Boss. He and Tink can be on a playstand together but he does tend to get a bit rough if not closely supervised. He's an awesome little bird but can be nippy. It's not aggressive or hostile biting - just that famous macaw pinch with a sharp little beak. I echo what Kelly says about Dewey - Beaker likes to be scratched but only when HE wants to. He is also by far my loudest bird. He has a scream that makes my dogs howl and run. Beaker is also a terrific talker - I've lost track of how many words he can say and he talks very clearly, in context, and with emotion in his voice.

I don't find Beaker to be conure-like, except in size and shape - he's all macaw. I grew up with a B&G and I find Beaker's personality to be very much the same. He's clever and sneaky, and goofy and silly, and crazy, scary smart. Tink, my Sun, is much more laid back and mellow. There's *nothing* mellow about Beaker unless he's asleep, LOL.

I am fine with a bird not wanting to be touched. I am not allowed to touch Abbey at all. I would like for Abbey to be friends with the new bird. I know that no matter what I end up getting they might not get along. My hubby likes larger birds. He thinks he is going to break Abbey. So Hahn is a bigger but not to big for me. I am not going to be adding a new member until at least spring. We are moving in January. So I have plenty of time to find the right fit. Do you suggest any other types of birds?

Is something like a Military or an RFM (RFEEEEEEMSIblameXafsmom) too big for you too? They're both totally sweet, in my experience and research.

I mean, that's a biit of a size different, but not so much. I've heard that hahns can be totally sweet and totally cranky...but I mean, more so than other crazy crazy macaws (except Scarlets, which I fear...cause I swear the prettier they are the harder to handle!)
