opollo relives his past life

When i got apollo from the last young man who had him he told me the lady who had him said to get him in his cage using a broom. He said apollo was afraid of brooms and would run back in his cage. Since i had him i never had any problem getting him in or out of his cage so never could figure what the broom was about until i listened to apollos conversation with himself yesterday. Heres how it went. Apollo get in there, stop it, stop, ouch, ouch, quit it, your a bad bad bird. apollo gets really loud now, yelling apollo stop it ouch get in there Harold' help help. As i was listening to him i was getting a visual of this unknown lady desperatly trying to get him in his cage and he knew she was afraid of him so he took advantage of her by obviously pinching her and not going in the cage or maybe he was pissed because she used the broom before to get him in. I would guess her dh harold didnt have a problem getting him in his cage thats why she yelled for his help. She was probalbly was the one who insisted he be rehomed. She was in over her head and couldnt handle this large bird. I find its amazing the things you can find out just listening to your bird relive his experiences. I even laughed at the image i got in my head about what went on with apollo and this unknown lady.

Aw man, I know that was supposed to be funny....but I started tearing up when reading it. ; _ ;

My sun is TERRIFIED of brooms (and anything long and stick shaped). And with good reason. These are giant long stick like things that you're waving around infront of--let's think here--A CREATURE FROM THE AMAZON.
Gee, I wonder where that natural fear comes from? -.-

I guess all I could focus on was the idea of this woman waving a broom at this terrified bird to chase him back in....and his biting her would be from the fear.

I dunno...I can see how it would be funny, but it just makes me sad...

I did not think her chasing him in the cage with a broom was meant to be funny, The funny thing was my thinking she got what she deserved when i was picturing her yelling help from hubby. She obviouly knew nothing about large birds so why would one buy a bird you would be afraid to pick up? I actually felt sad listening to him reliving that experience. I never had to chase him in the cage he goes willingly without any kind of fight. Its funny and sad like you said.

Oh, sorry..I hope you didn't think that I thought that. I understand that you thought the fighty inexperienced lady was funny...not the broom. I agree with that, I just zeroed in on the "bad bird" and the broom, which is what really killed me.

Well, sounds to me like it was her husbands bird and not hers. When a family adopts a bird they ALL need to work with it. I guess the thing is they need to be a family pet and each member of the family needs to be onboard. You can't have one afraid and intimidated.

LOL I love the random conversations that birds remember! Have you ever used a bird around Opollo? I wonder what his reaction now is like - you said that he will go right into his cage? Poor thing - I dont think that the previous owner was hitting the bird with the broom or being aggressive (I guess we'll never know) but maybe trying to use it as a dowel because it was long and she figured her fingers would be safer??

I never use a broom around apollo and would never attemt to scare him with anything. I dont know if that lady hit him or not with it but judging by apollos conversation it didnt protect her fingers any, her ouch ouch is the telling word. lol

The ouch ouch DOES crack me up, I have to admit.

I have this thing about people calling dogs and birds and any other animal "bad" though. Especially paired with whatever species/family/genus/order/whatever the animals is.

I mean, do you go to your kids and go "Bad human! Bad!"

It's just...ugh.

Luca (sun) is terrified of my hula hoops too....I was very careful to start hooping around Eti so he can get used to it.

But seriously. It's just...so obvious when birds are frightened of those sorts of things...i don't know why someone would start using it like that!

All this reminds me of youtube clip, btw. I think I posted it at one point, but here it is again....Abby scolds himself. One of my favorite parrots to watch on youtube, actually. His pronunciation is quite impressive! (he also sings patsy cline 0 _ 0 )
