I about melted...

I got to hold a Hyacinth Macaw last week. That was the first time I have ever even seen one in person! I had my freaking camera in the car, and the whole time was kicking myself for not bringing it in. The beauty of those birds just cannot be displayed in photos... The size of that beak cant either! This one was young, but my gosh was he beautiful. His freaking feet darn near wrapped all the way around my arm.

Okay, sorry... I just had to share. That was a pretty cool experience for me!

I also got to see several of the Golden Conures and hold a young one. The coloring is amazing. Very, Very beautiful birds!

I saw birds that day that I have only HEARD about. I went to buy toys and wound up spending a whole day at this ladys aviary. It was very very neat. She kept it in top notch condition and had some seriously beautiful birds.

Aren't Hys amazing? We have one at the pet store down the road. He is about 16 months old. Me and my husband go in there quite a bit and stay for hours playing with this guy. He will jump out of Birans arms to the floor and run to the food bin isle where I am bagging up food and hop up on my arm to get treats. I tap my fingers on the floor and say "Come on Goose" and he hops and runs right to me. He also likes to lay on his back and dangle his head over your arms so you can scratch under his neck. I agree photos do not do them justice. My favorite thing about them is that they "hop" when they are on the floor. His name is Goose. Its hard to leave them. I as well as those who work there hope they never sell him. They also have another one that is not for sale. She too is a sweetheart but a bit more set in her ways and prefers men. Brian can handle her, however most days I cannot... every once in awhile I can. If I ever win the lottery.

I agree, Hy's are awesome birds and that was a great experience. Golden conures are wonderful birds also. Quite loving and cuddley birds. Their voices can get to you but that can be worked with. My two, Annie and Sunny, are just the best birds. Having had other conures I did not realize how wonderful the personality is...not nippy at all.

They are amazing. The breeder where I got Beaker has one as a pet, and he's so protective of the babies she breeds. Doesn't matter what breed - he thinks they are all his babies and looks after them all gently and lovingly. When it's time for someone to pick up their baby and take it home, he can't be in the room, because if he sees one of "his" babies go out the door he'll bite Dee. :)

Wow you lucked out! I'm so jealous! Hyacinths are just so amazing. I've not had the opportunity to hold one yet. I hope one day I will get the opportunity! I love the golden conures as well. Gorgeous birds.

I wonder if there even is one in BC Canada? I haven't heard of one ever being around.
