Not an issue for me, he could poo at anytime he wishes. I am concerned holding it in all night could harm him.

As far as the huge morning poop, that is perfectly normal. Does he poop in his cage during the day? If he is holding it in specifically because he does not want to poop in his cage, it could eventually cause problems if he holds it too long too often. I have heard of other birds who just naturally don't poop much, if at all, during the night though...thus the huge poop in the morning when they wake up.

He isn't in his cage during the day since I am home. He spends all day on his playstand but he poops all day on that. He just seems to be holding it in at night cause the bottom of his cage is spotless.

Has he ever pooped in his cage? As long as he's willing to do it at some point, then him holding it at night is ok...as long as holding it is not a new thing for him. If it's something he just started doing, you might keep an eye on him and consider getting him checked out or at least talking to his vet to make sure there is nothing else going on. I have no idea what it could be, but just to be safe.

I would think it's the same as us. When they're sleeping, they don't potty. Mine do not potty all night either and have one big poo in the morning, then normal poo resumes throughout the day... every 15 - 20 minutes. I think this is normal.

I dont have a macaw, but my little meyers holds it all night. when I greet him in the morning I must give him a moment to release it, or I end up with a poopie on me as big as his head...well not quite, but I cant believe it came from him.

Yep, here too. I remember the morning after Razz's first night with me. I thought she was a maCOW. It took 7 paper towels to clean it up.
