Size Difference in Severe Macaws

Hi everyone,

I am in parent's place for halloween weekend and I'm so glad to be playing with my birds, dogs and cat once again. Due to sad circumstances, we have taken responsibility for my Aunt's bird. He is a delight, a little bully but yet affectionate in his own way. He is fairly young and was raised with his sibling that was slightly larger than him, but flew away before he was given to us.

We decided to purchase a non-DNA Severe macaw recently. She was only $250 and has a great personality, albeit was starting to pluck when I got her(assuming she is a she). She just finished her quarantine, and although we saw a size difference upon seeing her and the other Severe macaws they had at the bird show, I did not notice how HUGE our original bird was until they were put together.

Is this normal in severes? I am assuming most severes are the size of the one we got recently.

My aunt's bird was actually taken as a hatchling along with it's sibling from a huge tree in miami that was about to be taken down in her neighboorhood. She hand raised both of them. Could it be that the feral species in Miami is larger than the species being bred for pets? His sibling was slightly larger than him!

Attached is a picture of both of them. Let me know what you all think.

Thanks!

How old is your new severe? Is he/she still a baby?

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention. The new severe (Sweety) is 7 years of age. Lolo is only 3 years old!

Wow! That is a very big difference. I don't have an answer for you though. I am curious what Tina, Xaf's mom has to say. They are both adorable though. Congrats.

Honestly, I have seen both large (over a pound... yes it is true!-- he was 16 years old) and those smaller than usual. I really think there "is" a broad spectrum of size when it comes to these little "green gremlins." I do not think you have much to worry about at all.
They are both very cute, and very honery too I would assume.
