Xpost - Collapsible Boarding Cage Suggestions?

I posted this in the Product Discussion, however i think Macaw specific information would be a better value.

I am looking for a collapsible cage to be used as a Short term boarding cage for a friends B&G Macaw.

I may have this female B&G Macaw randomly on weekends or holidays and i would like to have a cage available at my home for her to sleep in and spend some time in while i'm not at home or quite time. Ideally this cage would collapse so i could put it away when she is not with me, id rather not have to get out a tool kit every time i have to put it together or take it apart but having to secure a bolt or two is better then it not being safe.

I was thinking about a large dog crate,(which would meet my needs, maybe not hers) however since it is something she will be spending some waking hours in and i want to make sure its safe and is made of materials that will not make her sick, and will also survive her being a little rough with it.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Or recommendations?

Thank you,
Criss

I have an extra large metal dog crate that my Amazon lives in. Let me explain why. Alex needed something longer instead of taller. He's terrified of falling as he got hit quit a bit in his last home. The dog crate gives him plenty of room to move around without the fear of a long fall. He doesn't spend alot of time in it anyway. Mostly he's on his playstand or hangin out with me.
I think a dog crate would be ok for a temporary housing for your friends macaw. It's easy to take apart and store also.

Any idea which type or manufacture would be best?

I know that i need to stay away from
- Galvanized Metal(sp?)
- Zinc
- Copper

Any others?

I also started looking around for something portable in the event I had to go somewhere and take the girls with. One is a little monkey who will climb off a stand when she wants to be with me whereas the other will stay put and if I were to go to someone else's house they might not be so understanding if she chewed something.

I have no idea of what types of monies you are thinking of nor have I investigated how good these cages are as I have just started investigating this past week myself.

I did find two that are of interest. The first one actually folds and they have a video:
FeatherLand Folding Bird Cages and Play Gyms

The second one are panels that look somewhat easy to assemble by one person:
Avian Adventures Bird Cages: Top Quality Bird Cages This company also has an Outlet where they have some bruised and reduced ones for a cheaper price.

I had looked at dog crates before and I cannot remember the brand name but the cage is painted black and when I contacted the manufacturer I did find out the metal was zinc so I crossed that off the list real quick.

Neat the folding cage is a pretty good idea!!

Since i wont have her very often i was hoping to get away with less then $300.00 but her health is more important. Ill have to keep looking, the dog crates do kinda freak me out however. Some manufactures can be soo shotty.
