- This is going to be long, most of my animals are rescues and I like to tell their stories.
Senegal Parrot - Beans
Adopted 2 months ago at 8 months of age from a local breeder. Lives in a large cage with a giant birch playstand and his own T.V. at his disposal. The first few weeks with Beans was rough, he was a screamer. Now however he has calmed down and is a great little friend. He doesn't step up yet and only tolerates petting on his head, but we're working through this. The breeder didn't spend much time training the babies as he fell ill and no longer breeds. Beans gets a minimum of 3 hours a day outside his cage and at least a half hour of interactive play with me a day.
Border Collie/Retriever - Turbo
Turbo was a rescue, he had 4 homes in the first year of his life. Came to us extremely unsocialized with severe food and dog aggresion (all is well now). He is extremely intelligent and lives up to his name (very hyper). He was involved in Flyball, knows how to play Beach Volleyball and almost every trick in the book. He's great with all my animals, couldn't ask for a better dog.
Jersey Wooly Rabbit - Fugly
Fugly was a rabbit that had been in a Pet store for nearly 5 months. He was extremely depressed because he was in a tiny glass cage. Because of this he was malnourished and had hair loss (that's how he got his name, he wasn't very attractive. He's very beautiful now though). When I got him home he didn't even know how to hop. The Pet Store was giving him away for free. I took him on the promise that they wouldn't stock rabbits again. They haven't since.
Cat - Floyd
My boyfriend and I adopted Floyd when the owner of his mother was going to 'get rid' of him. He was very young and not yet fully weaned. As a result of being taken away from his mother too young, he has developed what the vet calls a bi-polar schizophrenia (I know...scary). We manage this with a type of kitty prozac, and Floyd is a good cat, though he has his moments.
