Gem baby finch

Gem was two months old and I had been feeding her for a month. The parents had stopped feeding her and yet she would not wean so I took over.
Turns out that she had a genetic birth defect that made her beak curl in. There was also something wrong with her feet and she did not walk on them or perch.
yet she had a zest for life and stood up and ran around on her legs with all her toes pointing forward. She loved to be held and if you held out your hands she would run, jump in and snuggle. I kept feeding her hoping she would get strong enough for the vet to trim her beak and help it grow right.
Saturday I took her for a beak trim. Sunday she died in my hubby hands while I was at work. She was not meant to be but we enjoyed here and loved her while we had her.
Fly little Gem, Fly.
