Peanut
I had Peanut for six weeks to the day. He was a 'tiel baby. His parents rejected him at two weeks of age and I took over. It turned out he had a genetic defect involving his crop. He never stopped looking like he was two weeks old. Despite his problems he was energetic and strong. He wanted to live so bad.
Today, he passed away to Heaven. He now has the wings he always wanted. I hope he will sit on my shoulder someday, when it's my turn to go home. God bless you, Peanut, we will never forget you or your strong spirit. |

Tiki,
Thanks, honey. You are just the sweetest gal. I am so happy for Timmy!! What a wonderful ending. Lynjupiter is having me take in some of the birds from the hurricane area. Of the 40 she was to receive, only 21 are still alive now. They have been traumatized and injured by the storm. They need a foster home until they can be reunited, like Timmy, with their families. If the families cannot be found then we will keep them until forever homes can be adopted by them or they may want to keep us as their forever family. I couldn't save Peanut but maybe I can save and help these feathered angels. I want to do it as a memorial to Peanut. Any bird that could survive a hurricane must have a fighting spirit just like him. I can't stand the thought of his body being cut up for a necropsy. My avian vet said that there's no point doing that since I intend not to breed again, at least for right now. If I do this again I'll spend some internship time at Joe's. I know Joel will have something to say about it but last night we buried him. I placed a candle on his grave, next to Hunter's window and two rosebushes. He's about a foot away from Peepers' grave. I miss his determined little face. |

Not all of them died Kristin. Some are still flying around and can't be caught.
PARROTS are continuing there rescue effort with these birds. If they catch them they will send them to me. Some of the tiels talk . One says What a pretty boy! It is so cute. I am watching for signs of illness and may have enough money soon from donations to actually get a vet in my house to look at all of them! Taking it one day at a time here but you will soon get your foster birds. It is wonderful of you to take them in. The rescue lady says if you could ever see the house where some of them came from you would be shocked anything came out of it alive. Fighters for sure! Hugs, Lynda |

I don't even WANT to imagine what they went through. I was sick with thoughts of what would become of the animals in the area that got hit by Charley. I know Joe would have lost alot of his. There was only so much he could do to prepare. Hmmmmm, he's 79. Next time we're under warning like that maybe other male members of the avian society could offer to help board up his place. It's a bit much for him. I'd be willing to help. I'm handy with wood and tools, thanks to my dad wanting me to be a boy so bad that he almost turned me into one....lol!!
Skull fracture? That's horrible. Those poor babies. They are so innocent, too. |
