I'm so sorry about Posh. She was obviously very loved and cherished by you and your family. I cried reading your story, and feel your sadness and loss. My bird (a pearl/pied cockatiel) died 6 months ago, and I miss her terribly. She was the joy of my life. Anyone who has loved and lost a bird knows how hard it is. Thank you for sharing your story and warning everyone about the danger of the tent. I tried one of those tents, but my tiel was too scared of it so we took it out of her cage, thankfully.

My sister had a bird and the same thing happened except she caught it in time to save the bird. She was in the shower and when she got out of the shower, she heard this noise coming from the bird -- a weird noise like it was in distress. It sounded bad enough that she simply wrapped a towel around herself and quickly went to the bird. It was struggling to get the string from around its neck and the more it struggled, the tighter it became. Luckily she was able to free the bird with sissors -- she cut the string and then put the bird on her lap and cut the string that was wrapped around its neck.

Had she not been home, the bird would have died like your did -- I'm so sorry that this happened. Based on my sister's story and your story, I would not have one for my bird. Thank you for sharing this painful story here.

I'm sorry for your loss too :( I know it's hard when a dear bird dies. And I think I will have still to thank you, because I have thought that if I some day got a Pyrrhura conure, I would have to bought a tent for it. But now I will think of that twice...

I only came across your post today. I am so sorry. I just can't get the picture of your poor little Posh out of my head. I lost my GCC in June. He flew into a door and broke his neck so I really know how it feels to loose a bird.
Every time I hear about a bird getting hurt or dying it bothers me a lot more than any human dying. Is that normal?
Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. I lost my baby Peaches 10/7. She was a parrotlet. I still don't know what she died of. Some days the sobs hit me hard. Again, my sympathies. L

Hey,

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. I almost lost my Sun Conure, Lola, at six months from a similar situation. It wasn't a happy hut though; it was some sort of Coconut Nest toy that I thought would be fun for her to play with. One day before leaving work I heard a weird noise coming from the cage... when I turned around, Lola was in a crazy contorted position and it turns out her leg was being strangled by the fibers from the Coconut toy! I grabbed a scissors and cut off all but the small piece wrapped around her leg. I very slowly unwrapped the tightly wound string from her leg... thank god she was OK! If I hadn't been home....

Suffice it to say, I'm very careful what toys I buy for her now... and I won't be buying a happy hut anytime soon either!
