Hollywood...

So New Years eve as I was getting ready to go out. My girlfriend pointed out that Hollywood, my cockatiel, had been very quiet, and she had checked on him and well...the outcome hadn't been very pleasant. Hollywood was dead. In less and a few hours since I had last checked on him (getting showered, eating, getting ready) he had died. I don't think I've EVER cried so hard.

You can probably find pictures under my name of him. He was the best bird EVER. He was so sweet, loved to have his head scratched, and just loved attention. When I was still in highschool he'd go to school with me and fly around the art room and he loved sitting on these stuffed christmas snowmen i had in my room. I don't know what happened. He was fine, I had just had him out scratching his head and...the next thing I knew..he was gone.

I'm crying now as I type this, I didn't just lose a pet, I lost a really good friend. He's what introduced me into birds, that's why I have my sun conure Kona. And I shamed myself thinking that I would rather have Hollywood back than her now. Nothing could ever replace him. I love my conure, but honestly..she's a witch, she bites, she screams. Hollywood was the total opposite. He whistled these cute little tunes to me. And once he even got out outside, flew around my entire block, and came back. And...obviously I did something wrong! He just turned 2 about three months ago. And I've had him since he was three months old. I don't know what I could have overlooked...I miss him so much.

I'm sorry to hear of Hollywoods untimely death.Please place your efforts now into Kona.It's not too late to turn that relationship around.You may very well have your new best friend waiting in the wings.

sometimes we don't know what happened... things happen despite the best we try... if you're really worried what caused his passing, have a necroscopy done by an avian vet - that should give you some answers....

Thank you guys so much. I went out and visited Hollywood's grave that my dad made for him lastnight. I felt bad, he finally burried him lastnight in the freezing snow and cold. He burried him while I was gone, which made me a little upset that he didn't wait for me...but, whatever.

I've cried so much today, its so hard. And as for Kona, well...of course I'd never turn my back on her. I still play with her and try and get her to be more accepting of me. She's only 1, so she's still maturing :-)

Sorry about your bird. I know it's not easy to get over the loss of our beloved companions. Hopefully the pain you are feeling right now will ease up in the near future.
