i'm sorry for your fid and for you. this is a terrible tragedy. and you didn't have to share it here but decided to..which was brave considering you were opening yourself up for more pain besides the pain you already have. many times in life we make terrible mistakes and no one needs to remind us...it goes without being said.

That's right, Beaks .... although you were holding back. I'm surprised at you.

Lesson learned? Puulllllleeeease! That's a lesson that should have been learned BEFORE bringing a vulnerable creature home. THat's a lesson that a FOUR YEAR OLD would know. No, make that a TWO YEAR OLD.

I can't understand those offering oooohs and aaahs and sympathy. That is the easiest accident to AVOID. It doesn't take rocket science. She should NEVER be encouraged to get another bird or any other animal for that matter. If that were a human baby she rolled on and killed, she'd be in jail right now for the rest of her life. Why should we offer sympathy for this?

I'm still holding back what I really want to say. Administrator, it's probably time to close this thread as well because 12 hours later, I'm just as angry and am dying to let it rip.

I wouldn't even suggest a stuffed animal to this person as a "replacement".

You probably wouldnt be in jail if you killed a baby that way cos it happens so often, you will be up for manslaughter but more than likely the case will be dropped. Some people have been raised differently and the sheltered ones cannot weigh up actions and consequences, trust me i know people like it. I would think they are doing the stupidest things but they would have no idea why. If no one is there to tell them not to do it they could get hurt or hurt something else. Also I highly doubt a two year old or a four year old would know that. Apparently if you cannot get charged until you are 16 (at a minimum) then that means people still don't know the difference between wrong and right.

Well, we can call me a moron for I was absolutely clueless when Ducky came to live with me and I can be put in the category should not be allowed to own a bird.

By the grace of God, Ducky survived my stupidity. And yeah, I admit, I slept with him as well though he slept on my headboard. In reading different sites an talking to different people, I learned what to do and not to do. If I told everybody the things I would do with Ducky, I would probably be kicked off this community. No, I never was mean intentionally but I did things that I have since found out that it's an absolute no-no. Again, by the grace of God, Ducky survived and his a happy little bird.

You know, sometimes things happen and those accidents, when looked back on, it can be seen as completely preventable. Hind sight is 20/20. People have lost their children to something that could have been prevented but they are not charged with a crime. I will never forget the time I was in 7th grade. A boy that was in my class, a 12 year old, lost his life right in front of his father's eyes from a very preventable accident and in reality, should not have happened. That father, I am sure, to this day (if he is still alive), anguishes over what could have been prevented.

This bird lost its life to a very preventable accident. However, this person will probably never sleep with a bird again. Many of the things that I used to do with Ducky, I will never do again. I think back on some of the things that I would do and say to myself "OH MY GOSH, what was I thinking?" I am humbled and bowled over at how lucky I was not to lose Ducky to my stupidity. This person was not as lucky as I was.
