My friend is gone
Sad news everyne.
Chi Chi my cockatiel is gone. He has been my companion for 24 years. He's been thru moves, boyfriends, husband, birth of my son. He was the first pet my son bonded with. Mikey is very upset but I explained to him that Chi Chi lived a very long time for a cockatiel and we should be happy that we had him for as long as we did. He went quietly while I was holding him. He had fallen very ill last week and we made an emergency trip to the vet. He was on medication all week and today seemed very happy eating and dancing around his cage. I went up to go clean the cages tonight and he was on the bottom on the cage breathing heavily. Im happy that I was there for him in his last moments as he's been such a good friend to me. I hope he's as happy in heaven as he was here. Ill miss him! |

i'm very sorry for your loss - 24yrs is a long time, and though you have to be proud of yourself for taking such good care for him it also makes his passing even harder...
fly free, little chi chi

Thank you to all who responded. This was a very tough day for my family. It was hard to take care of my other two birds without Chi Chi. For 24 years I looked forward to seeing him each day. I miss him and my son misses. The other two birds were very quiet this morning. They usually all wake me up at 7:30am each day. Im going to spend some extra time with them. We are also definitely going to be looking for another bird. I feel like a part of my history is gone! I didn't even have my drivers license when I got him. He was there with me thru all my major milestones. And he was a nice bird too.. I started putting him on my son's shoulder when he was 3 years old-- Mikey is 6 now and is really missing him. I know with time we'll feel better but it's just very hard right now.

You gave him a good life and an important gift called "Commitment"---you should be proud of the lesson you've taught your child(ren).....you've taught him that pets are important and deserve a good life.
More parents should teach kindness and commitment to animals. I am sorry for your loss, but rest assured you did a great job. Mary |
