My Gouldian Finch Hen died!

One of my Gouldian finches started sitting on her 3 little eggs last night (Monday). She come out this morning to eat, drink, etc. Her mate had no interest in sitting on them so she went back in & sat on them all day. She was still in there when I went to work today at 5pm. When I got home at 10:30 pm, she was laying in the bottom of her cage dead! She hadn't been dead long cause she was still real soft & not very cold. I don't know what happen to her. I felt her vent area & could feel something so maybe it was another egg. I wrapped her up & stuck her in the freezer so I can find out what happen to her. My question is, what about the eggs? Since she started sitting on them lastnight & all day today, they will die if I don't do something. I have an incubator from when I used to raise quail, chickens, ducks, etc. would that work? I'm gonna keep them warm till I find out what to do. Thanks, Crystal

He won't sit on the eggs. Thats why she sat on them all day. I took the eggs out (there was 4) & I'm gonna try to save them by putting them in my incubator till I can get some foster parents. I'm supposed to go saturday to pick some up. The other 2 pairs that have eggs won't sit & the 3rd eats her eggs. So this is the only option I have right now. Crystal

Are there any societies at a local store? They are good surrogates and pretty easy to find. Fingers crossed.

Thanks. Thats the kind I'm gonna look for at the bird fair saturday. I've checked around at the local pet places & most only have Zebra finches & I've heard they don't foster Gouldians that well. Hopefully all will work out. Crystal

I'm going to the bird fair Saturday & I'm gonna see if anyone there has a pair or a foster pair thats sitting on eggs. If they do & want the eggs, I'll give them the eggs. Crystal

We bought a pair of societys and they dont sit the eggs either and the LGs will only sit for a couple days then quit.

My others that had eggs started sitting but only during the day. At night they roost on their perches. I'm sure everything will be fine in a month or so. Crystal
