thank you eliza. I am purchasing a carbon monoxide tester tomorrow. I don't use teflon, I use stainless and hard anodized which the vet said were ok. I have not cleaned my carpets lately, but when I do, I will make sure its a nice warm sunny day and put the birds outside. No replacing the carpets, did that a few years ago. No painting, we did that a couple years ago too. Lately no crafts have been done, and I don't use the self cleaning thing on my oven, I scrape and clean it by hand.

I did talk to the vet today and he is VERY suspicious of the heat being the problem. Its just very coincedental. But I wont rule out other things too. thanks again

BTW, how expensive is a necropsy? Just wondering since we are talking about this subject.

A lot of money, but sometimes worth doing.
I thought it to be around $100 maybe.

Both my cages are atop a heat/A/c register. When I put them there, (Jack's been over a year and Chino 5 months ago) , I covered it as much for the cold air as the hot, dry air. I figured the ambient air temp was fine in the house without the drafts. Summer and winter I keep it at 70-72 in the day and 65 at night. I put in a register filter, closed the flaps, and have a towel on top that I use for under their bathing dish at bath time.
I sure hope you find the cause of the deaths, and I'm very sorry for your loss.

It depends on what you have done.

There is a VISUAL necropsy, which is more or less a physical examination.

Then there is the pathology portion of the necropsy, where tissue samples are taken and later examined.

Neither is mandatory; some folks opt for just the visual portion as it is less expensive but the results are often not conclusive, esp. in the case of sudden illness resulting in death or an unexpected death.

Fees will likely vary from city to city and state to state.

I try to update w/ a cost from my vet once I locate Beetle's paperwork from August. I know that saved everything but I likely hid it away from myself

here in texas necropsies never cost less than $300. i think a visual necropsy is pointless. unless the bird had a severe physical injury, it wont tell you anything. even if you send all the tissues off to the lab, the results arent always conclusive. you can have them tested for disease also, i think thats extra.

If more then one of my fids died at the same time and I had more fids at home, I would really want to have a necropsy done on at least one. I would worry sick about my fids.
It is expensive, but worth doing, and maybe after doing some shopping, one could find a vet who does it at a lower price.

I did shop around, problem is, I did not know to refrigerate them, and they were already dead too long.

BTW no more have died, everyone is fine. thanks
