pair died suddenly, any thoughts???

Good morning all, I am really upset my parrotlet pair was found dead this morning. Here is the story, I am open for suggestions. Thanks

I just put both pairs of parrotlets and my 3 single lovebirds into one of those cages that you can make 2, 3 or 4 cages out of, its wrought iron. I did this on Sunday night, and this morning I found my one pair of parrotlets on the bottom of the cage. They look as if they were perched on the bottom together, as if they were perching on a perch together and died. They are laying right next to each other, there feet are still around the bars. I don't understand what could have happened, specially for both to die side by side? Any suggestions? there were no birds next to them, only above them. I am so upset right now

I am so sorry for your loss. Has anything changed in your house lately? Any painting, floor refinishing, oven cleaning, etc? Since you have other birds, you may want to consider asking your vet to see if s/he can determine what the problem was, just in case it is something that might impact your other pets.

Oh, poor guys.

I guess we can find comfort in the fact that they didn't have to die alone and there was probably no suffering. Poor babies.

Yeah I know, but its still sad and wierd at the same time. They were not thin or anything, I checked. If they stoppred eating and drinking, how long could they live without food and water? I have not noticed anything wierd going on with them at all. But since going into the new cage, if they were stressed and not eating or drinking, though there are thrown around, how long could they survive. That is the only thing I could think of.

I can't believe that the parrotlet pair died at the same time without a serious cause. This just doesn't happen! Either the cage has a problem, the birds were inhaling something together, or something else occurred that would wipe them out quickly. You had better take the others out of the cage and move them to another cage(s) that wasn't bought at the same time. Then examine the cage very closely and see if there is anything going on there. Check for air problems. Think carefully of what was going on last night or this morning. You must find out what it was in order to protect the other birds. If there was any chance of the lovebirds getting into their cage, but I doubt that since the parrotlets didn't have any damages. I would be very fast at doing all of this because some other birds may also be affected. Also look at heat -- could there be a heat register near them.

there is a heat register under the cage, but its not right underneath that pair, there is no way the lovebirds got in there cause they are ontop of them, not beside them where the divider could have moved out. Nothing has changed, cept putting them in there. Others are just fine, singing, eating etc... I have moved them out and recleaned it. I am using a cleaner that is bird safe, got it from a bird store, not sure the name off the top of my head. I just don't understand it.

Emergency -- turn off the heat and move birds!

I think it was the heat from the heat register adding too much heat and drafts to the birds. If they were not adapted to it, it could easily have overcome them and quickly wiped them out. Being right over a heat register is a very bad thing and is recommended not to be used for birds. I can just imagine what happened, the birds got overheated. This is what killed them. You must not use that location any more -- although the other birds have not shown this yet, if it gets hot there, another bird could also get heat exhaustion, even if higher up. I would move those birds to another location and turn off the heat right now!

first of all, they have always been there, secondly the heat is to my home, I can't "turn it off"

I am sorry about your birds. HOWEVER, no one here is a vet and certainly cannot tell you the reason they died, without having a necropsy done. Since you do have other birds having this done could save your other birds if they died from something contagious!
