Molly finally succumbed to the cancer

My sweet baby Molly finally succumbed to cancer. she fought squamous cell carcinoma for almost 2 years. The last month was very hard. She was yelling all the time. I posted here about the experience. However she was eating up until the day before she died. She had lost so much weight but still seemed alert. That morning I fed her with a syringe as I had been and then she usually went down to eat avi cakes. Not this morning. She went between her two blankets to rest. I had to meet a friend for lunch so I said goodbye to her. Her back was turned to me and she would not turn around...unusual for her. I said "okay mo, be that way, I love you" and left. when I came home 2 hours later she was on the bottom of the cage. I wish I had not left. I was grateful though that I did not have to put her down and that she went on her own. I just wish I had been with her. is this common, for a bird to turn away from you like that when they know they are going to die?

I keep waiting for some kind of sign from her that she is okay. I miss her so much. I had her 19 years and she was the best companion anyone could ask for. I miss having a bird companion. There is a conure at the Petco in town I wish I could rescue but thank God it costs $699 as I'd probably buy it.

Trying to get used to the silence. It's been 3 weeks.

Goodbye Mo, I will never forget you!

Mom

Wow, nineteen years... what an amazing life Molly had. It hurts really bad, I know. The silence is the worst part. I am sure she is nearby. The ones I lost are always around. I am terribly sorry for your loss. Fly Free Molly!

i'm sorry for your loss - she had a good life with you for 19yrs... that's a long time. you will know when you're ready to open up your home for another little birdie (you could look around if there are rescues in your area when that time comes).

fly free, little molly - and watch over your mom

Poor Molly! I think maybe she didn't want you to see her like that. She wanted you to remember her for what she was, not what was eating away at her. She's a lucky birdy to have had you for a Mommy, and I'm sure her turning her back on you was nothing personal. She didn't want you to see her like that, and she's with her mommy always.
