I'm Still Here - for those who have lost a bird
A letter from those who are flying free and never forgotten
I'm Still Here I was near you, by your bed last night; I came to have a peep. I could see that you were crying, you found it hard to sleep. I chirped to you softly as you brushed away a tear, It's me, I haven't left you. I'm well. I'm fine. I'm here. I was close to you at breakfast. I watched you pour the tea. You were thinking of the many times your hands reached out to me. I was with you at the shops today. Your arms were getting sore. I longed to take your parcels; I wish I could do more. I was with you at my grave today. You tend it with such care. I want to reassure you, that I am not lying there. I flew with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key. I gently touched you with a feather, I smiled and said, It's me. You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair. I tried so hard to let you know that I was perching there It's possible for me to be so near you everyday - To say to you with certainty, I never went away. You sat there very quietly, and then smiled, I think you knew. In the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you. The day is over, I smile and watch you yawning And say, Good night, God Bless, I'll see you in the morning. And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide, I'll fly across to greet you and we'll enter side by side. I have so many things to show you. There is so much for you to see. Be patient, live your journey out... Then come home to be with me. From Most Loved Avian Poem

I couldn't make it through the first 4 lines without crying like a baby...and I haven't even lost a bird.

I just lost Keegan my sweet cockatiel this morning after 5am. My DH went down and she waddled to the front of the cage and gave him a peep. He went back to bed and found her gone at 10:30am. He didn't wake me and I didn't get up until noon as I had been crying all night over her impending death.
I would like to get a copy of this poem and put it in my scrapbook of her pictures is there a way I can print this or find it online? |

Just highlight it and cut and paste it right out of Rach's post.

That is so beautiful - thank you for sharing. The bonds we have with the animals we share our lives with are so very powerful. I recently lost a cat that has been with me for twenty years and a little finch who was only with me for a short time and came from dubious circumstances. I grieve terribly when an animal passes even though I believe all souls live on. Thanks again for posting this, I had never seen it.
