Tie

I got Tie when she was 6 weeks old in the spring of 1997. I finished the hand feeding and she had the best personality. Of course nippy at times, she thought she was a macaw! She chased all other pets that came into the house and if you tried to tell her it was bed time you would get a nip! In July of 2004 the x husband and I were still married and we had some stuff going on. Arguing that kind of thing. Well he was bringing something into the house and he says he didn't see her, but I believe in my heart he did it on purpose. He stepped on her. I held her until she died, it only took a minute. It was the worst minute of my life. I couldn't go to work the next day I was SOOOO distraught. I couldn't believe that she had actually died! I just sat there holding her. She got buried at my mom and dads house that following week. I really miss her and I think she would have loved my kids (re-married with kids now). I have considered getting another green cheek, but I don't know. I have my options open at the moment to get a parrot that is small and good with kids or at least can tolerate them!

Tie I miss you so much!

My condolences for little Tie. Fly free little one

As far as getting a new GCC...depending on the ages of your children, I think a conure is a great idea if you can handle the possibility of the noise and the nippyness that they're known for. My sun conure is the favorite bird of my best friends' kids (ages 9, 4, and 2) out of my whole bunch. They're very interactive, can learn tricks, but are still easier to handle for smaller hands (all of which you know ) Good luck in whatever you decide. I will say after losing my first sun conure, it was very rewarding to get my Tootie Belle (although it took over a year to be able to get her).

Thank you for the kind words. I am beginning to wonder if I should get a larger conure than a green cheek...since I have small children and a smaller one on the way. I love the sun conures but am always worried about the volume. I have an umbrella 2 but she lives with my parents until I have somewhere to put that huge cage (hopefully less than 5 years!)

I am sorry for what happened to you and to your bird. Animals always take the brunt in break ups when one person is trying to hurt another. I am sorry you experienced such a thing but glad you are open to moving forward and having another bird.

I recommend going to a rescue or foster group and meeting individual bird and making your choice that way. You can meet a lot of different species and get to know each individual. My green cheek is the sweetest bird and he came from a shelter...

Best of luck.

I am so sorry for the loss of little tie. At least he had a good life. I also would recomend looking into addoption foundations. And always take some time off to spend with each individual bird to see thier inner fid.
