An angel of mercy...

It is with a sad heart that I must tell you of the passing of a true Angel of Mercy. Gerda Deterer of Wildlife rescue of Maryland passed from a brain tumor this morning. She was a true savior of animals. She rescued many parrots as well as her wild friends. She never turned an animal away and was able to care for, treat and release back into the wild thousands of animals with the help of caring financial donations. She will be greatly missed.

That is so sad. But seems she left this world with great accomplishments and a life of compassion under her belt. Thoughts, prayers and best wishes to her friends, family and the many lives she may have touched.

She was an amazing woman. At her Service several people told of how dedicated she was with stories of humor, loss, happiness, sadness, and most of all a deep and abiding sense of true respect for a life that made such a difference.

She ran Bird Rescue before it became Wildlife Rescue - ever increasing her willingness to help every little bird, every little furry one, and even parrots because she understood them to be wildlife, too. It often pained her to see how others tossed them aside.

If anyone feels so inclined and lives in the Maryland area - now would be the time to support the parrots there either with a little volunteer time, maybe some treats, or some new toys. The parrots are likely to be the ones who experience the change in their world most dramatically.

A very sad loss, but a truly amazing story, also.

If you are in Md or close surrounding areas they have some great birds for adoption. Adoption is free! You must volunteer and they prefer the bird picks you.

I will keep her husband Wayne and all the birds in my prayers. A big loss for many!
