I liked your story safarichick. Ginger beans sounds like my duck! She is the friendliest of our poultry and loves cuddles.
Our chickens are very much part of the family, same as the dogs and parrots. They are very underrated as pets, especially when you get them young and raise them well. I had a rooster I would take for walks and swing him to sleep on the swing at the playground and rest with him in the shade of some trees.

hey mel, what happened to your budgie, topaz? He isn't in your siggie anymore!

Lol, I agree with you completely! Ha ha, my dad wonders why I want a bird so bad because he thinks the chickens act just like big, fluffy, parrots! He's right on that point, but.... I still want a bird. :)

Lol, I love silkies, but it gets so anoying when they go broody. My silkie crosses (romeo's children) still have that anoying trait in their blood. It was fun the first time around when Juliet (a silkie hen) hatched 4 "mutts" out, but now that his son, Canello, is grown up, and romeo's gone, its a bit of a risk because he prefers his foster mom (juliet), and his half-sisters over the "big girls."

Lol, romeo refused to mate with Juliet, the other silkie, but rather preferred the "fat bottomed" hens.

But Canello, he, like most human men, preferred his girls to be smaller than he. He likes the "bantam chickens."

Topaz was rehomed to somewhere with other budgies for her to play with. The romance she had with a bi-polar lorikeet who would kiss her one minute then attack her the next wasn't working. Also Peanut had had enough of sharing his cage! There's a thread on it- I think I put it in the budgie section.

As similar as chickens may be to parrots in some ways, they are NOT parrots! I understand why they would be no substitute!
I love it when they are broody- Bella and Willow are in the coop all the time right now and if I touch them they puff up and growl at me. It's really cute! It's funny how they all have their personalities. We once had an accident where a father fertilized his daughter's eggs and we had incest babies with extra toes! That did NOT happen again!
