How and why BirdBoard.com was started!
Many people have asked me why bird board was started, how and etc… So here I am to answer that question in detail.
It all started when we picked up two cinnamon cockatiels at the local pet shop. Bagel and his Brother “Cream Cheese” from the same clutch both were exceptional birds friendly almost human in how the interacted and what not. Not long after we built a large 8’ x 8’ x 8’ Aviary for the two and the new lovebird sister picked up not long after. Well after about 6monthes of having the aviary local cockatiels that were escapee’s flocked to the house since we had bird feeders all over the backyard and with the bird yapping with the mocking birds, blue jays and etc we got all sorts of exotic birds wanting in the aviary… So before you know it we had 10 cockatiels, 1 lovebird, caught 1 African grey which was returned to the owner… Well around the same time I was beginning to build my online network of websites, and starting to consult businesses with online marketing.
My sister saw what I was building and wanted a Bird site and well she flaked after about a week and I kept with it knowing that I could bring a lot to the bird community and thus, I found KVNBAND by hiring him for a small project and then kind of became one of my main guys for smaller web projects and a good kid. With his help, I was able to instill ideas I envisioned that the community would enjoy, from that point Bird Board took a life of its own after a couple months with natural word of mouth growth, member participation in sharing ideas, giving feedback, suggestions.
In Feb of 2004 BirdBoard.com suffered a hard drive crash which everything was lost and well my spirit and energy was crushed to rebuild but it was rebuilt and about the same time we lost out two prized pet bird’s bagel and cream cheese do two a loose hinge on the aviary that was left unlocked… Well about 5 months later the site had grown back to about 1700 members if I remember right… Which told me BirdBoard was here to stay!
Since then Bird Board has grown to 3800 members and by years end we hope to eclipse 10,000 members!
Where is BirdBoard.com going?
Bird Board is heading forward in becoming the Bird site, bird owners look to online and we are striving to bring more and more information, resources, tools, tips, articles to the bird community. Other idea’s are on the drawing board but are not going to be released till it can be launched 1st on BirdBoard.com
Problems the site faces: Till now, I have personally kept the site alive financially for hosting, scripts, programs, contests, marketing etc… But Bird Board will be seeking ways to generate a stable income for the site to maintain itself and growth on its own.
(I will add to this as I can think of more stuff to include)
