Potbelly pig

I don't run across too many people that have potbelly pigs for pets but since this is the section about "other pets" I thought I would introduce my potbelly pig whose name is Tulip. She will be 14 years old next month -- she is old, but she certainly is my sweetie -- I've had her since she was 3 months old. She is an indoor critter but is trained to go outside. She's huge -- 175 lbs. I didn't think she would get this big and it's a good thing I didn't know otherwise I probably would not have got her. But I am glad I did -- she's a wonderful critter to have and I'm sad that she's this old as she's nearing the end of her life and I have no idea how I will deal with that.

Here's a couple of pictures of her:

Whoa, that is a big piggy. Cute too, I heard of a potbelly that saved a womans life, was real cool.
Almost look like the ones in the wild outside where I live in NC, but they were hair..er? Hairerer... hariyer... uh... yea.
Anyway! Are potbelly pigs like dogs?

Tulip is adorable! I love PB Pigs! I had several years ago. My favorite was a boar named Buster. He LOVED to lay on the couch with me and watch tv. He did tricks too. Does Tulip do any tricks?

Not any that I taught her ... she made up her own ... LOL.

Here's a for instance. She loves oatmeal and I put it in her feed (she gets a hot breakfast every morning). Anyway, I came home from the market and had put the perishables away. Unfortunately, I did not put the non perishables away right away. When I came back to the kitchen to put them away, I noticed that there was no oatmeal. I looked at the receipt and realized that I did in fact pay for it but figured they did not put it in the bag but I did look around just in case. No oatmeal to be seen. Anyway, about a couple of weeks later, I was laying on my bed taking a nap when I heard some noise. Tulip had come into my bedroom so I looked over the side of the bed to see what she was doing.

You would not believe what I found. She had a whole stash of food under the bed -- I was missing more than the oatmeal and didn't even know it. She was stealing food and hiding it under my bed and waiting till she thought I wasn't around to go eat it.

I could tell you story after story about the stunts Tulip has pulled -- they are very smart critters. I don't need to train Tulip tricks -- she figures out her own tricks to play on me.

I have a frienf how rescued a piggy that has been abused and I am looking for a place to get a few answers for her. This piggy will not let anyone near her and we have noticed when she gets upset she will grind her very large tusks together.I didn't evenknow they had tusks. Do you know any one who can answer some questions.

HI!!! PBP's are the best! It's very nice to meet other piggy people!!!!!! Here's some pics of my 3 girls, Rosie, Lucy, and Spamee!
Tulip is darling! I love her smooshie face. 14 is only middle age for potbellies! With proper care they can live up into their 20's.

That is the cutest story ever. I have always been intrigued by pigs. I love them and Tulip is just so sweet!

OMG they are WAY too cute for me. I always wanted a pig.

Matter of fact my son and his girlfriend were over tonight and I gave them the whole tour of how I was overhauling the house for Cookie Bird; where his cages were going etc...I'm 'birding' everyone out to death.

Anyway,my son said 'Mom, I thought you wanted a pig'? I replied yeah I can have one of those too. He just shook his head and laughed.

Hey, he's my son. He KNOWS I'm nuts

piggy

Wow!!! She looks just like my piggy....I love my piggy so much, she is about 1 year,5 months now. She is also a house pet, sleeps at the foot of bed or next to me if its cold, better than a heating pad against my back. She fellows me everywhere I go just like my Dashund. You open the back door she will walk through the garage without a leash to the backyard for a cookie...ruts around some, goes to the potty, then will open the back gate with her mouth, trot through the garage, into the house to where i'm sitting and wait for her cookie. lol so so cute. But the big problem when you have a pet pig is...where is she going to stay if you have to go out of town. I have to go to the Doctor in another state....and no one will watch her. I'm in Texas and did find a pig reserve in Arizona that will board her but outside in a pen. I'm very worried about her being out in the cold cause she is a house pet, she starts to shiver for hours if she gets cold when she goes outside. What am I do do??
