There is no such thing as a mini chiuhuahua either--no toy chi, no teacup chi, no mini chi, no micro chi... they are all the same breed. Unscrupulous backyard breeders give them those cutesy names to get more $$ out of you.

I agree to make 'teacups' they breed runts with runts which leaves then with MANY problems aswell and tiny little bones that snap like toothpicks.

Teacups is not a term AKC recognizes, but that doesn't mean one is a runt if they are small. Smaller dogs are more fragile though then a larger one, but what do you expect? You also need to be more cautious of the elements as they can't take care of their body heat as well. But being small doesn't automatically mean they are sickly and a runt.
When people ask me what kind of dog I have, I always reply Toy Poodle. People also ask if she is a Teacup Poodle and my response is "I guess some do call her that too." She is not even 4 pounds and going to be a year old on Thanksgiving. So is she a sickly dog and a runt? No. Her parents were small like her, but she turned out more like her father in size. Mother and father were both healthy. She is healthy too until recent when she caught a cold. Large dogs don't get sick? Well smaller onces might get chilled easier. Then she had some bad food. Only takes a little food to fill her up and it if is bad, it hits her more than another larger dog. Does that make her a sickly runt? I think not. My vet says she is a healthy little dog. He tells me the normal precautions with such a small dog, about keeping her warm in cold weather, about vaccinating her not all at once, etc. I don't treat her like dainty china either. I treat her the same way I did a 12 pound poodle I owned. Smaller dog means smaller bones. What do you expect? A large bird has larger bones than a finch. Dogs have been bred up and bred down. There are breeders out there though that try to sell a teacup litter of puppies knowing they will bring more money, then the buyer ends up with puppies who were never teacups. (So many people I have come across tell me they bought a teacup but their dog got larger than they thought.) Then there are some who sell sickly puppies as teacups because they never got big because they were sick to start. But if you look around for a good breeder, you might find a healthy teacup. As far as my dog goes, I didn't buy her expecting her to be teacup. The breeder said her range will be 3-5 pounds or more. That was the weight range of her parents. She was healthy from the start and fed good food. She was not purposely stunted. As far as spoiling a dog goes, this is a link to a pet tag that I love. All my dogs have them. http://www.animalstars.com/ They also have collars and other things, but I just love their tags. If you can sew or want to make things for your pup, you can find patterns for a jacket, dress, and doggy undies online. I made my dog a costume for halloween without a pattern. People loved it. Spoiling a dog is fine, but turning then into brats are not. Even though my poodle is tiny and her damage would be small, I still expect her to behave as well as any larger dog. She went to 2 obedience classes (graduated 1st place in both and one was off leash) and she went to get her CGC. I am thinking taking her to learn agility, but not 100% sure yet. She has a custom made harness for carting as well. My girl is spoiled, but she is a good girl and obedient. She earned the spoiling with good behaviour, but like any larger dog. |
