My sweet little Buster
My sweet ferret Buster is very sick. When I got home this morning, he was lying motionless in the bottom of his cage. I took him out and have had him with me all morning. Right now, he is in my bedroom where it is heated. Before anyone asks, it is to late to take him to the vet. I have had him for about 4-5 years. He has been very good to me. I know that he will not make it until the end of the week. I love him so much. I just want him to know that Mom was with him until the end, making sure he is warm and comfortable.

i'm sooo sorry to hear your little baby is sick, but i'm wondering about the same question - why not take him to the vet (i have to admit that i have no idea how long ferrets are supposed to live)

I won't get paid until Monday and his illness just popped up. Right now, I am keeping him warm and trying to see if he will drink water to keep him hydrated. Ferrets can live up to 10 years if properly cared for. I have had Buster for about 4-5 years. I got him from a pet store, so I don't know exactly how old he was when I got him.

Is it possible to talk to your vet and tell them about your situation? They may let you pay them on Monday. Do you have a credit card? I would hate to see your baby suffer just because he got sick when it wasn't pay day. Please don't give up, call your vet right away!!

I used to teach vet students, and I don't think a one of them could or would say no to you. If your vet does, call your local SPCA or animal shelter; they will have someone on call who can help you out. It will be easier to do today or tomorrow though -- holidays get tricky. Hopefully there is something that can help. Even if it is time for Buster to leave you, there may be a way to make his passing more pleasant. Thinking good thoughts for you.

Buster passed away on November 22. He is now with Belle and they are playing happily.
