Having had Discus for many years I feel I need to give you some warning. These fish are extremely sensitive to water conditions. Currently I only have four of my original 12 left. And at 30.00 to 50.00 per fish (and those are the babies about 2 inch - adolesents 4 to 5 inch are 100+) so it's wallet breaking to replace them.

Most people actually keep their Discus in a plane tank. Nothing but a fitler, fish and water in them (most breeders keep them this way so that they can make it easier to maintain a stable water conditions because the fish are so sensitive), no gravel even. Just a glass tank.

They live in relatively warm water (82 degrees on average) and are very suseptible to gill/blood flukes and "ick". The really weird thing is that the older they grow to maturaty the more suseptible to these problems they become.

We've even taken some extreme steps to try and give the most optimal "clean" system for our discus. Reverse Osmosis (RO Systems), Water Distillation System and UV Filtration to kill of bacteria. Electrolite conditioners, heavy metal filters, Automatic PH level optimization machinery. All in all, over a grand in hardware alone devoted to try and keep ours alive. And we've still lost 8 of them to date (within 19 months).

We think that if we do get anymore discus it's going to be them in just a glass tank (then what would be the point). Pretty fish in an ugly glass only tank? Most likely, we're going to replenish with more affordable fish.

Discus are considered one of the most difficult fish to keep. Basically a "only for the professionals" fish because of their cost and maintenance. There expert manuals written specifically on their upkeep. It's highly unlikely I'll venture down the Discus path again. 8 x 50 = $400.00 worth of deadloss.

Anyhow, just wanted you to know before you started your investment as to what it is you're going into.

Well, I have a small goldfish aquarium. Up until about a week ago I had two oranda's, Peanut Butter and Banana, but I lost PB to Ich. Stupid PetsMart people, they gave me the wrong stuff to treat it :(. But I got a PetsMart giftcard for Christmas so I might be getting another one, which I plan to name Strawberry.

I have a 15 gallon mini-reef saltwater aquarium. I am in the process of upgrading to a 40 gallon. I don't even have it set up yet and I am wishing I bought a 75. Salt water isn't as difficult as they make it out to be. Today's filtration is excellent.
