I had to give up a dog when I was younger, I could not even take care of myself let alone my dog (2 year old black lab) It was really hard for me to do but if I didnt he would have suffered in the long run. He did end up going to live on a farm and the Vet who placed him there gave me updates a couple times a year when I saw her as he was taken there for his regular visits and she was my buddies cousin.

I may be a bad person for doing this but I but I had to do what was best for both of us

sometimes there is a legitimate reason to give up an animal, but most of the time, people just make up any BS reason...

You did it for the best intentions of the dog, that's different. We had to give away our black lab too, he was trained to be a seeing eye dog but at 12 months his hip xrays werent good enough to work a good 10 years. We ended up having to rehome him as he was used to going everywhere with us and loved other dogs. He became destructive when we werent around and we ended up finding him a home with people who live on acreage, work from home and have another dog loving dog (rottie). We made sure he went to a good home instead of dumping him in a shelter making them do the work.

I would never EVER give one of my dogs up! Ichabod and Flea give me so much joy and unconditional love. Flea just lives to please me and Ichabod has his goofy "don't blame me- I'm the puppy" look. They're both so obedient and spirited.
Many people have no compassion. How could someone abandon their baby!? When we were in a bad situation, and had give away a dog, we flew her to another state to live with my uncle who spoils her rotten. She had given us so much, she deserved it. She gave me Flea :)
