I love chinchillas. I used to have two but they died of old age [they were rehomes and quite old when i got them]. They were never tame though. Are yours tame? Ive been thinking of getting another. But at the same time I already have a commitment to rescue 4 sugar gliders.

Thanks for the comments!

Yes, they are tame. However, chinchillas normally aren't calm snuggly pets like rabbits can be and can take a longer time to gain their trust. They have so much energy, they would much rather jump around and use you as springboard than sit in your arms and cuddle.

Most of mine like getting scritches under their chin and chest... they just close their eyes, tilt their heads and lift up their legs so I can reach. As far as handling goes, some tolerate being handled more than others. I have a couple females who are very moody and one that even sprays me if I touch her when she doesn't want me to. Gizzy is one of the most tame chins I have. She knows her name and will come when I call... but mostly, she's just my spoiled girl and knows she'll get a yummy chew stick if she comes to me.

Awww, they are beautiful. We used to have chinchillas too. They are the cleanest of all the pets we've had. I really love them. We also had degus for awhile among many others.
